Position Title:   B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator

Department:     Religious Practices and Youth Education

Classification:  Part-Time, Nonexempt

Supervisor:      Director of Education

Position Summary

The B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator manages the B’nai Mitzvah process, working closely with B’nai Mitzvah families, clergy, Temple administration, sisterhood, Religious Practices Board representative, and tutors (if necessary). As the person who works closely with the B’nai Mitzvah families, the B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator maintains a proactive role as a welcoming, service-oriented team member for the entire temple. The B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator is a part-time, non-exempt position and reports directly to the Director of Education.

 

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Regular communication with the entire B’nai Mitzvah class as well as individually with each family
  • Oversee the creation and updating of the B’nai Mitzvah Packet
  • Starting with our 5th grade families, schedules all B’nai Mitzvah family meetings, retreats, and special events
  • Manage the process for assigning B’nai Mitzvah dates for each family
  • Work with Temple Akiba’s Bookkeeper to ensure that all B’nai Mitzvah fees are paid on time
  • Help ensure that families are coordinating with Executive Director and Sisterhood for Oneg Shabbat, Extended Kiddush, and B’nai Mitzvah celebrations
  • Ensures that all B’nai Mitzvah Certificates are created and signed as well as overseeing the ordering of the JNF tree certificates.
  • Work with the families to attain all pertinent information including B’nai Mitzvah’s Hebrew names, Aliya names and relations to the B’nai Mitzvah, and if the family has a request for a specific Board Member to present at the B’nai Mitzvah
  • Be present at all B’nai Mitzvah and ensure there is another Temple Akiba staff member on site for any B’nai Mitzvah the B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator is unable to attend
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings, workshops, and other designated meetings and events.
  • Maintains the highest quality of courtesy, friendliness and service excellence toward members, visitors, and staff
  • Understand and support Temple Akiba’s mission, vision, and values
  • Work effectively with all staff members
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

  

Skills

  • Knowledge or willingness to learn B’nai Mitzvah & other Jewish practices, traditions, & life cycle events
  • The ability to professionally handle confidential information
  • Highly Organized with excellent office skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal/telephone communication skills
  • Ability to set priorities, work independently, take initiative, and follow through on projects and tasks
  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Office 365, Google Drive)

 

Education, Experience and Requirements

  • A high school diploma/GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of successful experience in Jewish formal or informal education settings
  • Availability to work some evenings and occasional weekends
