A project of Chabad of Greater Hartford.

Friends at Home Coordinator:

The Friends at Home model is simple, but the impact is far-reaching. On Sundays, teen volunteers visit children with disabilities in the environment in which they are most comfortable––their own home. Together they play games or sports, read books, do craft projects, etc. Some pairings also venture out for fun field trips. The child receives true friendship (often for the first time) and the teen learns that at their core, individuals with disabilities are just like them; they want to be appreciated for who they are and seen as a person, not a label. The connections formed provide essential respite for family members and promote inclusion of individuals of all abilities.

We are looking for a Coordinator to oversee and run this program, which involves matching participants, scheduling times between participants, training the teens and troubleshooting where necessary.

This is a part time position.

The job involves coordinating between parties, teens and parents.

Hours fluctuate anywhere from 5-10hrs per week approximately, depending on issues.

Approx 18 weeks during the school year.

Being on site and on call on parts of those Sundays.

Also prep time, planning activities and getting supplies for the groups depending on activities and what the groups need.
