Congregation BJBE, a vibrant and innovative Reform synagogue in Deerfield, Illinois, is excited to welcome an experienced Communications Manager to our team! The Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing the synagogue’s overall communications strategy and online presence through the creation of written, digital, and electronic content, and will act as the primary content manager and graphic designer for the organization. In this role, the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities is imperative. You must be able to work well under pressure and be committed to our vision, operations, and programming. The ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated, meticulous, compassionate, excited to tackle the challenges of developing engaging content, and committed to making experiences accessible and meaningful for our community. Communications Manager:
• Manages all aspects of BJBE’s print and social media presence; leads content creation for internally and externally consistent with the values and design standards of the congregation
• Presents BJBE to the world and raises BJBE’s profile with both internally and externally
• Manages content on the BJBE’s website; maintains digital media archives including photos and videos
• Develops and executes social media and email campaigns for key days, themes, and priority upcoming content
• Identifies target audiences and creates strategies to increase engagement and awareness for initiatives and events
• Tracks account analytics, and stays up-to-date on current research and trends; report on the effectiveness of all communication types BJBE is currently using
• Oversees the messaging for large synagogue functions, including High Holy Days services, annual Gala fundraiser, and other major events and programs
• Collaborates with committees and staff to develop engaging content, ensuring that all communications and marketing materials align with brand standards
• Prepares content for weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings
• Designs, edits, proofreads, and revises all marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, postcards, invitations, and advertisements
• Creates and manages database and online programming/event forms and registration
• Responds to media inquiries to achieve brand placement in publications
• Prepares weekly/quarterly congregational newsletter
• Maintains internal communications planning calendar
• Prepares membership materials; enters all prospective members and new members into database; sends all prospective member and new member letters
• Provides technical support for congregational and lifecycle events across all digital platforms

Essential Skills:
• Advanced knowledge of Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator)
• Creative with good judgment and ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment; resourceful and takes initiative even when given minimal direction
• Strategic thinker capable of implementing action plans
• Expertise with social media channels and emerging sites/apps and demonstrated ability to use them effectively to deliver content
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for writing for multiple audiences and in multiple mediums (print, online, and social media); must be able to compose engaging and accurate content
• Excellent written, presentation, verbal communications and interpersonal skills
• Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); must be computer savvy and possess the ability to learn new programs quickly
• Ensures the integrity of the BJBE calendar relating to all programs and events, in coordination with other staff
• Supports overall BJBE administration, answering phones and in-person questions from congregants as needed
• Experience with copy editing

Salary: Commensurate with experience, includes benefits
Bachelor’s in English, Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent education and 2+ years prior experience in a communications or marketing role
