Job Summary: The Limmud teacher is a key part of a dynamic team of educators, administrators, and Rabbis who make the Limmud b’Shabbat Jewish Education Program engaging, creative, dynamic, and warm. The teacher is assigned to an age cohort class and teaches this group for the school year. Limmud teachers will communicate with parents and guardians as needed and work collaboratively with other teaching staff and clergy in school-wide events and family programs.  

Essential Functions:  

 

  • Teaching two Shabbat mornings per month in accordance with Limmud guidelines 
  • Attending 3 Professional Development meetings with Limmud staff and leadership over the course of the school year. 
  • In conjunction with the curriculum provided by CBST, develop dynamic and age-appropriate lessons for each session; submit lesson plans by Monday prior to class. 
  • Send the final draft of caregiver communications no later than the Monday immediately following the Limmud session. 
  • High Holy Days: Co-leading programming for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur as able. 
  • Holiday programming: Co-leading programming for up to 3 other holidays as needed, such as Purim, Passover, and Pride. 

 

Experience: 

  • Experience in classroom or informal education, such as Jewish camp or afterschool programs in grades Pre-K through 8 is strongly preferred 
  • Ability to teach Hebrew, Torah, Jewish history, and holidays incorporating arts, drama, movement, or media 
  • Knowledge of youth engagement and classroom behavior management skills 
  • Comfortable teaching in a progressive Jewish congregation with a diverse student body

  • Excellent communication skills (both in person and written): Is able to produce a lesson plan, program notes, emails, classroom work, and more that are clear, professional, informative, and sensitive to family and pastoral needs, etc. 

 

  • Creativity and Innovation: Generates new ideas; makes new connections among existing ideas to create fresh approaches; takes acceptable risks in pursuit of innovation; learns from mistakes; has good judgment about which creative ideas and suggestions will work. 

 

  • Time Management: Is able and willing to focus time on tasks that contribute to organizational goals; Uses time effectively and efficiently; values time and respects the time of others; concentrates his/her efforts on the most important priorities; can appropriately balance priorities. 

 

  • Has an ever-evolving, creative outlook that keeps CBST achieving its mission and vision.  

 

  • Is responsive to feedback and committed to personal and professional growth.
