We are looking for a positive team player who takes initiative, thinks critically, and has an enthusiasm for learning. The Communications & Advancement Manager supports the efforts of the Advancement Department, working to strengthen and grow strategic fundraising and communication efforts. The position will report to the Director of Advancement. Primary roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • Own the entire communications lifecycle from creation to execution
  • Strategize and execute communications and social media plans
  • Compile content for weekly Lions’ Pride e-newsletter, school social media, and other communications as needed
  • Design and execute admissions materials and marketing in collaboration with Director of Admissions
  • Assist in special projects such as strategic planning, annual report, communications pieces, accreditation process, etc.
  • Support internal and external communication efforts across the school as needed, including but not limited to group emails, social media content, video creation, development messaging, etc.
  • Help build and catalog photo library for strategic development and marketing pieces
  • Work with graphic designer as needed to create communications and development pieces
  • Establish and market the VBS Day School brand through development of a strategic marketing plan and corresponding advertising plan 
  • Work with the Director of Advancement to develop and implement the fundraising communications such as annual report, annual fund and other fundraising marketing communications 
  • Ensure all VBS Day School internal and external communications are on brand and work with VBS Director of Marketing & Communications to ensure the Day School’s marketing coordinates with synagogue initiatives 
  • Improve communications and processes between schools and departments, particularly as it relates to calendaring, emails, overlapping events



  • Manage and maintain Raiser’s Edge NXT donor database including gift processing, pledges, gift adjustments, biographical information, attributes, constituent codes, list pulls and overall clean-up
  • Create, maintain and refresh (as needed) donation and acknowledgment letters
  • Collaborate with Admissions & Student Services Manager to ensure Lions’ Login (user interface) is up to date
  • Assist in the coordination of logistics for Advancement events and meetings, including but not limited to donor appreciation events, annual fundraiser, board/committee meetings, etc. Task will include oversight of invitation mailings, event registration, coordination with vendors and acting as the main staff liaison for day-of events
  • Assist with development specific tasks such as maintaining a strategic calendar of annual fund outreach and communications, donor prospecting and research, stewardship, donor “check-in” calls and emails, regular coordination and communication RE prospects and engagement with the Admissions office, pledge follow-up, impact reports, donation proposals, etc.
  • Partner with Finance office to reconcile donations and ensure accuracy
  • Maintain and assist in the growth and development of alumni and grandparent programs
  • Perform research of returned mail/incorrect contact information in a timely manner, update in Raiser’s Edge and notify other departments if/as applicable
  • Help build and catalog photo library for strategic development and marketing pieces
  • Work with graphic designer as needed to create communications and development pieces
  • Manages Head of School’s calendar, scheduling meetings with staff, trustees, parents, donors, and others, as directed by the Head of School
  • More duties and responsibilities may be assigned



-Education or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree

-Experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT strongly preferred

-Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

-Strong database, spreadsheet skills and ability to make both quantitative and qualitative decisions 

-Excellent interpersonal skills and strong attention to detail

-Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively 

-Ability to maintain strict confidentiality 

-Ability to establish and maintain a variety of record and filing systems 

-Flexibility to work events and programs when required, which may fall outside of normal business hours

-Experience working at a school a plus
