A nonprofit, social service, Jewish communal organization located in Middlesex County seeks a motivated, full-time Development Officer interested in a growth position. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and also works with the Board Development Vice President. Candidates are expected to display leadership in the areas of financial development to advance the mission of the organization through annual giving, government and institutional grants, corporate partnerships, Legacy Giving program, and capital campaign. The Development Officer will work closely with the CEO and the Board Development Vice President to create an actively engaged fundraising volunteer board of directors, and to expand engagement with the business and philanthropic community, as well as to manage a portfolio of donors, including individual, corporate and foundation prospects. Additionally, the Development Officer will provide leadership and strategic planning with respect to donors.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Oversee, coordinate and implement comprehensive development program, including corporate partnerships, government and institutional grants, capital campaign and planned giving
  • Research and identify new grant funders, and prepare and submit grant proposals for private and government institutional support
  • Identify, research, cultivate and personally solicit and steward a portfolio of major donors using a Moves Management approach
  • Develop and maintain personal relationships with major donors to maximize and strategically plan for all development opportunities through both ongoing events and individualized approaches
  • Develop systems and manage resources, including Development budget, necessary to carry out fund development plans and meet goals
  • Research and develop prospects and cultivate and maintain relationships
  • Coordinate and undertake leadership role in select fundraising events, community events, parlor and other donor and prospect meetings, creative engagement and fund development events
  • Support and work with the Development Vice President and CEO to engage and develop the fundraising and engagement effectiveness of the Board of Directors
  • Assist in the creation and implement effective communication strategies with impactful messages inspiring others to accomplish the mission and cause
  • Represent, directly, and/or as part of the organization team, to financial partners, including financial institutions, grant funders, government agencies and stakeholders
  • Maintain copies of all grants and fund development receivables and reviews all grants to ensure that financial reporting requirements of funders are being met
  • Produce grant expense reports as needed for Development
  • Prepare or assist in preparation of financials for grant submissions and reporting
  • Other responsibilities as identified and requested


Qualifications

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, cooperation and collaboration, and commitment to the mission of the organization
  • BS degree from an accredited institution required, in related field or equivalent preferred
  • Five to seven years of development/fundraising experience
  • Experience and success in securing gifts of five figure level and above
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to engage with and relate to community leaders and stakeholders, as well as diverse groups of people from all social, economic, ethnic, cultural and faith communities
  • Superior attention to detail, with excellent analytical skills
  • Experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment, and a self-motivated, proactive, self-starter
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Gmail/GSuite
  • Knowledge of prevalent donor database systems preferred
