Job Title: Educational Program Director

Fulltime In-Person

Location: Rancho Mirage, CA

This position reports to the Jewish Federation of the Desert CEO


The Jewish Federation of the Desert recently took over the operations and programming of the Tolerance Education Center, the Center’s mission is deeply rooted in educating the public and promoting tolerance, respect, and understanding while eliminating hatred and bigotry and the imperative of preventing atrocities in the future.

We are dedicated to fostering a comprehensive understanding of historical events, promoting respect, and inspiring action towards creating a more respectful world.


Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Educational Program Director to create, lead and expand our educational initiatives. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to our mission, to promote tolerance, respect and understanding while eliminating hatred and bigotry, through education and engagement. The Center fosters a mindset that rejects prejudice, conflicts, stereotypes, and celebrates diversity.  

This role involves designing, implementing, and overseeing educational programs and resources for a wide range of audiences, including students, educators, and the public.


Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Develop and implement innovative educational programs and initiatives that align with our mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with historians, survivors, educators, and community leaders to ensure the accuracy, depth, and impact of our content.
  • Oversee the creation of educational materials, including curriculum guides, digital resources, and interactive exhibits.
  • Lead professional development workshops for educators, providing them with the knowledge and tools to teach about the Holocaust and genocide effectively.
  • Establish partnerships with schools, universities, and other organizations to expand the reach and impact of our programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and initiatives, incorporating feedback and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Manage the educational department's budget, staff, and volunteers, ensuring efficient operation and program excellence.
  • Represent the Federation at conferences, seminars, and public events, promoting our mission and programs.
  • Be a self-starter and work effectively with a diverse team of professionals.



  • Bachelor’s (master’s preferred) degree or higher in Education, History, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational programming, preferably with a focus on Holocaust, genocide, or human rights education.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of volunteers.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience developing and managing partnerships and collaborations.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences, including students, educators, and community members.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field.
