Role Overview

The Development Associate supports efforts to connect people, vital funds, and resources to the Slifka Center mission. You will be an organized, thoughtful, creative, and dedicated self-starter. In this support role, the candidate will learn about all aspects of fundraising while supporting the Slifka Center and its welcoming community.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide administrative support for the Development team to execute fundraising strategies.
  • Process donations, generate reports, and ensure the system is consistently accurate.
  • Promote best practices in database management by ensuring constituent information and gift information is accurate and by recording all relevant contact reports and constituent notes in database
  • Help plan and organize fundraising events including alumni reunions and other special events.
  • Conduct research as needed using internet and proprietary databases.
  • Administer direct mail solicitation campaign (ex: high holiday campaign) including preparation of mailing/emails, organization of mailing list(s), and appropriate follow-up.
  • Help us build a parents committee to cultivate a culture of giving among family of our students.
  • Provide exceptional communication to funders, parents and supporters of the Slifka Center through writing thank you letters and other promotional materials.
  • Share important and timely donor information, gift information and community events with Executive Director and Development Director

On a day to day basis you will

  • Manage our development database through data entry and gift processing, record creation, and reporting.
  • Conduct research to provide insight into donor motivation and capacity using public sources.
  • Support the Fundraising Team in managing organizational processes, including budget tracking, communications, marketing, and development strategy.
  • Schedule and prepare materials for critical meetings including those with the Board of Directors, major donors, and local foundations.
  • Help prepare grant proposals and reports for individual donors, philanthropic foundations, and other funders.
  • Support the production of mail and internet-based solicitations, including the preparation and production of marketing materials..
  • Engage in outreach to parents and alumni, including meetings and support of the Slifka Center's alumni and parent groups.
  • Develop and promote a culture of philanthropy throughout Hillel, including creativity, teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement.

What You’ve Accomplished

  • 1 - 2 of years of work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrate organizational and research abilities with strong attention to detail
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Word and Excel, and facility using database software and reporting functions (Raiser’s Edge)
  • Proven facility using online databases and standard office software packages
  • Applying written and oral communication skills; able to communicate appropriately through email, formal letters, reports, and social media
  • Exceptional professionalism and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Self-directed and ability to prioritize a high volume of work, multi-task, work effectively with diverse colleagues and students, meet tight deadlines in a team environment
  • Management of donor or customer relation databases
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher-required
  • Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel (local and remote)
  • Willingness to facilitate conversations and learn more about Judaism and Israel in a way that inspires stakeholders to invest in our work
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively, success managing multiple priorities
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
