Assistant Camp Director
Successful applicant is required to work in person, year-round at Camp Bob Waldorf in Glendale, CA. Not a remote position. Living on site is a requirement June – August for summer program and five weekend retreats during the year.

COVID-19 Vaccination Required. Masks are worn at the direction of the Camp Director per City/County guidelines.

AN OPPORTUNITY

The Assistant Director at Camp Bob Waldorf has an integral role in the fulfillment of the camp mission. At the core of our mission is making sure that all campers are provided with the care that they need in order to be successful while they are at camp. The Assistant Director position stewards the camper
application process, creates and fosters Jewish programming and curriculum, facilitates interviews, manages on site camper wellness and care and oversees general camp wellness (Full time team, Seasonal staff, Leadership Campers, Campers) in order to make Camp Bob Waldorf a place where
everyone feels at home. Through utilizing the best practices of the camping and wellness industry the Assistant Director will help the staff and campers that attend, reach their fullest potential.

Camp Bob Waldorf and Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) enrich the lives of youth throughout Greater Los Angeles with the tools and support system they need to thrive from elementary school to college and beyond, driven by the values of community, inclusion, identity and respect. Our residential Jewish and non-sectarian camp programs, weekend retreats, outdoor backpacking trips, college scholarship programs and mentoring activities provide over 1,200 underserved children each year with a safe, nurturing environment where they learn to be creative, responsible, and thoughtful individuals.


RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work with the Camp Director and the Community engagement team to develop and implement camper recruitment, application, registration processes and an impactful overall camp experience.

? Visit and communicate with partner agencies and their staff year-round.
? Read and analyze Camper applications for retreats and summer camp.
? Foster, create and implement Jewish Cultural programming for Jewish Cultural Retreats and Summer Jewish Cultural session.
? Become an expert in the Campminder system for registration and enrollment of campers and running necessary reports for retreats and summer camp.
? Follow up on camper engagement team notes and communicate directly with and gather information from families and, if necessary, therapists, school counselors et al regarding information which may affect campers experience at camp.
? Make final decision on individual camper enrollment status and communicate with Camper Engagement team via Campminder system.
? Work with Camper Engagement Assoc and Program Director to create cabin lists for retreats and summer, utilizing information from Campminder and individual camper applications.

During camp sessions:
? Communicate camper health/wellness needs to camp staff prior to all sessions, including retreats.
? Supervise directly the Camper Care team and co-supervise, with the Program Director, the Camp Counselor team during retreats and summer camp.
? Communicate with families year-round regarding camper health and wellness.
? Create, train staff and implement Jewish programming and curriculum

2. Work with the entire Team:
? Create and maintain a community where everyone feels physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually welcome and safe.
? Work closely with other divisions of JBBBSLA (Mentoring, College Scholarships, Teen Talk) to communicate when campers who utilize multiple JBBBSLA programs overlap into the camp system.
? Take a lead role with camp open houses (virtual and in person), recruitment events, community partner engagement and Gear Up for Camp Day.

3. Work with the Camp Director:
? Stay up to date on processes and best practices for the industry by attending meetings/trainings for AIJC, JAC, ACA and other appropriate organizations and leadership training institutes
? Take the lead on high level behavior and mental health management for both campers and staff during retreats and summer camp season
? Communicate directly with families pre, during and post retreat programs regarding their campers’ experience at camp
? File reports and follow ups with DCFS regarding any mandated reporting issues
? Maintain meticulous wellness and health notes in the Campminder system for all campers as necessary

4. Work closely with the Program Director and Camp Leadership team:
? Assist with summer staff hiring as needed
? Take a lead role in designing and implementing summer all staff training sessions
? Provide input, feedback and creative effort into camp schedules, staff time off scheduling and other summer and retreat program logistics
? Serve as the primary coordinator for Summer Camp “Leaders in Training and Pillar Leaders” Programs. Including recruitment, interviewing, schedules and training.
? Follow up with participants and create year-round engagement opportunities

5. Assist the Camp Director with preparation for ACA accreditation process.
6. Provide Leadership and guidance to all staff in the absence of Camp Director.
7. Assist the entire Camp Team in all aspects of the camp experience to ensure the smooth running of camp year-round

ON A TEAM

The Assistant Camp Director will work closely with all members of the camp department and will be supervised by the Camp Director. The Assistant Camp Director will take the lead in developing, fostering and implementing Jewish cultural components during year-round programming and summer camp. The
position will also interact with other members of JBBBSLA including staff members of the Development, Finance, College Guidance/Scholarships, Teen Talk, Mentoring Program and Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS
? Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field required
? Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required
? Experience in working with and being part of the Jewish community preferred
? Experience in creating, planning and implementing impactful Jewish cultural programming preferred
? 1-2 years administrative or enrollment-based experience in an overnight camp setting
? Strong oral and written communication skills
? Well-developed interpersonal skills, positive energy, sense of self, open mind, and empathy.
? Strong initiative and a willingness to go the extra mile for those that we serve

COMPENSATION
? Salary Range - $62,400 - $66,000 annually
? Year-round, full-time, exempt Position
? Position required to live onsite during retreats and summer camp, housing and meals provided
? The Assistant Camp Director position also has the option of living on-site at camp year-round.
? Camp Bob Waldorf is in Glendale, CA. Position will be based out of Camp office year-round.

Camp Bob Waldorf/JBBBSLA offers a compensation package that includes a competitive salary range commensurate with experience. Generous paid vacation and sick leave plus three additional personal days, paid federal and all no work permitted Jewish holidays (13-19 holidays). Employer-paid
