The Astoria Center of Israel’s overarching mission is to provide a warm, supportive, and lively Jewish atmosphere in order for children to gain an awareness of Jewish life and to foster and strengthen their sense of pride in their Jewish identity.
The following part time position is available for the 2023-2024 school year.
Seeking experienced Hebrew language instructor who is dynamic, engaging, and creative using art, movement, and music, and is able to teach 3 levels of students; Kitah Aleph (ages 6 - 7 who are new to the Hebrew alphabet) Kitah Bet (ages 8 - 10 who can read and understand simple words) and Kitah Gimmel (ages 10 - 12 who can read and understand simple sentences). Candidate will work closely with 2 other educators and an Education Director. Candidate has good communication skills.
Classes meet Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 - 5:30 PM and run from Tuesday, September 12, 2023 through Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Teachers should be able to commit to the above schedule, including occasional community events outside of class hours (such as the Purim Party, the Chanukah Party) for which they will be compensated.
Rate: $65 - $75 / hour, commensurate with experience. Although being a native speaker is a plus but not a requirement, applicants should be fluent and have a strong command of the Hebrew language.
