The Camp Director reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all key aspects of camp operations. This includes year-round programs, special events, budgeting, and seasonal staff recruitment. The Camp Director provides comprehensive leadership, ensuring the administration, coordination, and supervision of all camp functions in alignment with the organization’s values, vision, and mission. This is a full-time, year-round position.

Primary Responsibilities:

Administration:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate camp programs that align with the needs and interests of the target population, ensuring their safe and high-quality execution
  • Develop vision and strategies for summer and year-round camp offerings by assessing competition, determining strategic opportunities, and aligning them with the mission of the J
  • Oversee travel programs including contract negotiation and developing trip itineraries
  • Provide fiscal management and oversight of camp budget
  • Manage inspections and yearly permits to ensure compliance with all regulations

Coordination:

  • Confidently engage with the camp on stage, lead ruach (spirit), and serve as the face of leadership for campers, staff and the community
  • Communicate with parents regarding events, open houses, registration, forms, and payments
  • Serve as the primary contact for parents to address major concerns, set proactive goals, and plan for camp participation
  • Assist with the opening and closing of the camp season, coordinating with pre-camp staff and contracted vendorsDevelop and oversee a camp committee, fostering strong year-round relationships
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan and execute camp fundraising initiatives
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for agency meetings, including board, leadership, and finance committees
  • Partner with the Creative Director to create promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, and digital content, ensuring cohesive communications across social media, email, and websites
  • Attend JCC events, departmental meetings, and community engagements as needed, with some evenings and weekends required

Supervision:

  • Recruit, hire, and train seasonal summer staff to ensure a high-performing team
  • Plan and facilitate staff training sessions and parent orientation programs
  • Supervise Leadership Team members, holding regular meetings to set and review goals
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where all participants are treated with dignity, respect, and personalized attention
  • Serve as a resource and role model for both campers and staff, addressing camp-related issues with professionalism and care

 Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory role within a day camp setting
  • Proven experience managing youth or family programs
  • Skilled in creating and overseeing program budgets
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey information clearly in both written and verbal forms
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively with the community and colleagues
  • Positive, enthusiastic, and passionate about contributing to a non-profit environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse group, including JCC staff, parents, lay leaders, children, and the public.
  • Familiarity with Jewish culture, traditions, and community, with prior experience in Jewish programming
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Suite; experience with CRMs and Campsite is preferred
