Vibrant, warm, growing, and inclusive egalitarian Conservative synagogue with approximately 260 families in Howard County, Maryland and 70 students in the religious school seeks an innovative and dynamic part-time Youth Coordinator to work with our youth from tots through early teens.  We are looking for a candidate who is committed to engaging our youth with a high level of creative programming through youth groups, Shabbat and holiday programs, education, and outreach events.  

We are located midway between Washington, DC, and Baltimore, Maryland, in a county consistently recognized as one of the best places to live in the country.

The Youth Coordinator works closely with the Rabbi and Education Director as well as serves as staff support to the Youth Committee and works collaboratively and cooperatively with the Youth Committee Chair, Religious School Committee Chair, and other lay leaders.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

I.  Develop and Execute Youth Program at Beth Shalom

 A.  Develop a plan to revitalize the Youth program at Beth Shalom from tots  through early teens, working with the Rabbi, Educational Director, and Board of Trustees Youth Chairperson

B.  Prepare, organize and execute youth programming 

C.  Collaborate closely with the Youth Committee, including regular communication with the Youth Committee Chair and other lay leaders regarding volunteer recruitment, publicity and youth events

D.  Advertise youth activities in coordination with the Marketing Committee

E.  Develop and maintain the youth section on the Beth Shalom website in coordination with the Technology committee

F.  Keep track of participation, conduct surveys and maintain financial records of Youth events

G.  Serve as a chaperone for all Beth Shalom youth events


II.  Networking and Recruitment

A.   Develop a database of Beth Shalom current and past students. Identify prospective youth in the Howard County

B.  Take part in Synagogue events and activities in order to form connections with students and parents 

C.  Connect and network with youth regularly and work on developing relationships

Are you a college student or recent graduate?  Do you have the following qualities and skills:

  • Experience working with pre-school, elementary, and/or middle schoolers
  • Coordinated and facilitated events or programs from beginning to end
  • Experience with various social media and technology
  • Knowledge of Judaism
