Temple Beth El is a warm and inclusive synagogue community located in Stamford, Connecticut, just 45 minutes from Manhattan. While we observe the tenets of Conservative Judaism, we are a progressive congregation, embracing all who seek a connection to Jewish life, while constantly looking for innovative ways to make our rituals and traditions more relevant and meaningful through vibrant prayer, learning, social action and transformative Jewish experiences.

Temple Beth El seeks a Director of Engagement to develop and implement strategies to recruit new members and to help all congregants establish deep levels of connection within the temple community and to their Jewish identity.  Our ideal candidate is a Jewish leader who will facilitate teamwork, community involvement, outreach, and enthusiasm for our mission. This candidate should possess a strong base of knowledge in Jewish customs, history, and traditions, and have significant experience engaging with families with toddlers, school-age children, and teens.


  • Continue to build upon the warm and vibrant culture at TBE.
  • Have primary responsibility for membership recruitment, inquiries and follow-up in partnership and coordination with the Executive Director and Membership Committee.
  • Work alongside VP of Membership and Membership Committee to cultivate meaningful relationships among new and existing members.
  • Build relationships within the greater Stamford Jewish community to attract new families to join Temple Beth El, including the preschool communities in Stamford (JCC, Chabad).
  • Link TBE members together, building affinity groups to foster connection.
  • Build bridges between day-school and secular-school kids at TBE.
  • In collaboration with clergy, staff and lay leadership, design a year-long calendar of educational and social programming for children and their families.

  • Highly strategic thinker. Able to identify engagement goals and put systems and structures in place to meet them.
  • Experience utilizing a variety of social media and other communication platforms to achieve engagement goals.
  • Ability to convene and lead a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Proven record of creating and implementing successful programs and events.
  • Able to work positively with congregants, staff, board, community partners, and vendors. Possesses a warm and welcoming personality.
  • Willingness to reflect, learn and grow as an individual and professional.
  • Independent thinker. Self-motivated and shows initiative.
  • Preferred knowledge of ShulCloud and other software systems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
