Jewish Student Life Coordinator

Hillel Campus Alliance of Michigan

Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining the Hillel Campus Alliance of Michigan as a Jewish Student Life Coordinator. As a community builder, you’ll inspire students to be partners in creating a vibrant and welcoming Jewish community on ten campuses statewide. You will drive Hillel forward by thinking big and implementing with excellence on a day to day basis.

In this role, you will bring your contagious energy and creativity directly to the students, engaging one-on-one with previously uninvolved participants, supervising student boards and interns and working directly with those students to create dynamic Jewish student life across the state of Michigan. You will work with our team to create and implement a comprehensive engagement strategy to reach the estimated 1,500 Jewish students on our ten campuses.

The Hillel Campus Alliance of Michigan is a coalition of campus Hillels located throughout Michigan. HCAM is building dynamic and vibrant Jewish communities for students at Alma College, Albion College, Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Kalamazoo College, Michigan Technological University, Northern Michigan University, Saginaw Valley State University, and Western Michigan University. We prove that Jewish student life exists outside of a traditional Hillel building, providing nurturing environments for students to grow religiously, socially and ethically. We encourage a love for Israel and focus on creating an open and welcoming community for all Jews, with respect for other faiths and a broad understanding of what it means to be Jewish.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop one-on-one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work and/or study, utilizing creative methods to reach and connect them to Jewish life.
  • Supervise student leaders who are responsible for engaging their peers in Jewish life on campus through one-on-one interactions and programs.
  • Work with students and staff to implement a wide range of programs, including Shabbat and holiday celebrations, social opportunities, social justice projects and Jewish learning opportunities.
  • Serve as an advisor for a number of our Hillels across Michigan.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Meet with student leaders virtually and provide supervision to help their leadership growth.
  • Travel to campus (2-3x per week) to have a coffee date with a student who has expressed interest in becoming more involved in Jewish life on campus.
  • Meet with your HCAM colleagues to shape and develop meaningful opportunities for HCAM students to connect.
  • Work on a plan to grow our HCAM social media platforms.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $40,000 - $43,000
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, Life, AD&D and Long Term Disability (LTD) insurances, Flexible Spending accounts, generous vacation/sick time, parental leave and a fully paid cell phone plan.
  • Great professional development, mentoring, and skill building opportunities.
