Chizuk Amuno Congregation & Schools is a vibrant Conservative community located in Baltimore, Maryland. At Chizuk Amuno, individuals and families find meaning by engaging in the celebrations and wisdom of Judaism in our sacred community. In pursuit of this mission, Chizuk Amuno ascribes to the Rabbinic teaching: “The world is sustained through Torah – learning; Avodah – prayer and service; and Gemilut Hasadim – acts of loving kindness.” With five different schools serving over 800 learners on a weekly basis, Chizuk is at the center of Jewish life in Baltimore.

Gemilut Hasadim (GH) forms the third pillar of our congregational mission statement of personal service to others. This position is funded by an endowment.

Roles & Responsibilities – including, but not limited to the following:

In reach to congregation:

  • Consult with rabbinic and educational staff about service initiatives within the congregation and schools.
  • Work with B’nei Mitzvah coordinator/Ritual Assistant in coordinating mitzvah projects for students
  • Lead staff member for annual Mitzvah Fair
  • Help arrange Shabbat transportation for members who can no longer drive themselves.
  • Coordinate lay led initiatives to congregants in assisted living and nursing homes.
  • Gemilut Hasadim programming in response to congregational holiday programming.
  • Staff lead for GH Committee: meet with Chairperson regularly and coordinate committee meetings
  • Coordinate and plan annual volunteer appreciation event.

Outreach to community:

  • Staff support to lay led projects and provide service to other groups in the community.
  • Develop, evaluate, and sustain partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations
  • Cooperation with community groups collecting items for charitable projects
  • Attend Kehillah and Social Action Task Force meetings and respond to initiatives with other community agencies (BJC, JVC etc)

  • Strong organizational skills, including collaboration with staff, volunteers, and lay leaders
  • Excellent verbal and written communications: can articulate messages to other staff members, congregants, and families clearly and succinctly
  • Ability to work both independently and in a fast-paced team environment
  • High standard of excellence, dedication, flexibility and a "do whatever it takes to accomplish the job" attitude 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Constant Contact, etc.
  • Knowledgeable of Jewish traditions and lifecycles 

Location/General Conditions:

  • Part-Time – in person role in Baltimore, MD
  • General Business hours: Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. -3:00 p.m.
    • Schedule to be arranged and determined with supervisor
  • Availability to work some evenings/weekends/Jewish holidays
