Congregation Ahavas Achim Newburyport, a small unaffiliated congregation located in downtown Newburyport, MA is looking for a religious school teacher for Tuesday afternoons.

Details of the job

  • School meets Tuesday afternoons from 4-6 PM throughout the school year.  Teachers are expected to be there from 3:45-6:15
  • Students are in grades 3-7, usually broken into two or three classroom groups at any given time
  • Pay range is $50-55/hour
  • Curriculum includes basic Hebrew, Tanach, Jewish history, Jewish thought and ethics, arts and crafts, music, tefilah, Israel, holidays, and life cycle concepts. 
  • While we expect our teachers to come prepared, no curriculum planning is necessary.  You will be working closely with our Education Director, Noa Bourke, who will provide materials and lesson plans.

Qualifications

  • Experience as an educator.  Experience teaching in a Jewish setting is a plus
  • Basic Hebrew proficiency
  • Familiarity with Jewish life (life cycle, holidays, customs/rituals, vocabulary, tefilah) 
  • Reliable and punctual
