WHO WE ARE
Temple Israel is a Conservative synagogue with a long history. Established in 1906 in Manchester NH, our membership currently stands at 100 families. We are the only conservative synagogue in the immediate area. We are well-known as a hemisha congregation. Being part of a small Jewish community in Northern New England our membership is close-knit and welcoming. We have "cultural" Jews, "religious" Jews, Jews-by-choie, and Interfaith Couples. We feel inclusion is mandatory and everyone is welcome!
We are primarily a volunteer run synagogue working alongside our professional leadership on programming. We have 13 members that can leyn Torah and have had 15 in the past 6 months volunteer to give a D'var Torah or lead services. We have a small religious school program with a part-time director who is also our chazzan.
We build a sukkah together, have a community Passover seder, we throw a Hannukah party and a Purim festival when we deliver shaloch manot to each others homes.
Built in the 1950s Temple Israel is a 50+ year old wonderful Frank Lloyd Wright style building. We have a large sanctuary that can seat around 400 people as well as a smaller chapel that seats around 30 people.
