Lessons learned from the Holocaust and other genocides provide a modern-day platform to promote social justice by confronting bigotry, racism, antisemitism, and all forms of discrimination. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to manage the Holocaust Education Resource and Outreach (HERO) program. The HERO program works closely with Connecticut schools and VOH’s strategic partners to provide Holocaust and genocide direct educational programming for students, curriculum, and professional development for teachers. The HERO Director shall expand our existing educational catalogue of resources and expand our reach in Connecticut schools. The Director is the point person for educational initiatives, programs, and professional development opportunities at a state and national/international level. This position is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and the community at large. Through the HERO program, we ensure that VOH’s mission to promote a culture of courage to stand up against hatred through Holocaust and genocide education and remembrance is fulfilled.
Additional responsibilities include:
· Organizing, coordinating, and marketing educational field trips for students
· Integrating genocide education into existing programs
· Expanding our Speaker’s Bureau statewide
· Cultivating relationships with survivors and their families, educators and the community
· Working with and training descendants of survivors to serve as speakers in schools and in the community
· Coordinating professional development workshops for teachers
· Exploring grant opportunities for the HERO program
· Reporting on program reach and impact
· Partnering with organizations with similar missions to build relationships, broaden our reach, increase visibility nationwide and share best practices
· Chairing the VOH’s Education and Holocaust and Genocide Education Advisory Committees
· Creating HERO newsletters
· Maintaining HERO website page and CT Remembers virtual exhibit
· Attending VOH and community events, staff and board meetings
· Willing to perform all day-to-day office functions, working closely with Executive Director and the professional staff.
Qualifications:
· Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor’s degree or higher in Holocaust and other genocide studies or related field is required.
· Strong organizational, interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills a must. Able to manage multiple projects in a faced-paced environment.
· Willingness to participate in professional development to further knowledge base is expected.
· Some travel and night/weekend work may be required from time to time to execute programs and attend meetings/events.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, fundraising software like Network for Good, WordPress, and Canva preferred.
Salary: Commensurate with experience. Hybrid work environment (only in-state applicants will be considered).
