Vice President Financial Resource Development
The Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo (“JFGT”) is seeking a Vice President Financial Resource Development. Working with and reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of JFGT, VPFRD will coordinate and lead an integrated financial resource development (“FRD”) team that is responsible for annual fundraising for JFGT, and legacy and endowed giving and operations of the Toledo Jewish Community Foundation (“TJCF”), which is a division of JFGT. The VPFRD will supervise, manage and inspire the Donor Development and Women’s Philanthropy Officer (“DDWPO”), the Foundation Operations Officer (“FOO”) and the Foundation Associate (“FA”). The successful candidate will be an innovative leader and a team player, with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to cultivate relationships at all levels.
The VPFRD is a full-time exempt employee of JFGT and requires residency in the Toledo area.
JFGT is the central address for Jewish philanthropy, community programing and services for the Jewish community of northwest Ohio and part of southeast Michigan. JFGT includes a successful endowment program thorough the Toledo Jewish Community Foundation, (TJCF), a seven-figure annual campaign, a professionally staffed Jewish Community Relations Council, a preschool in its own building, PJ Library program, an active Next Jewish Generation program, Hillel programs at two regional universities, dedicated programming for community members age 60 and better, a Jewish Family and Social Services division that operates a food pantry and provides transportation coordination, patient advocacy services, and in home care coordination and support. The JFGT also operates the Toledo Jewish Community Cemetery Association that maintains two cemeteries.
JFGT’s annual campaign has consistently generated over $1 million dollars from over 525 donors for many years. TJCF has been cultivated within the Toledo Jewish community for over 25 years and is responsible for an investment portfolio of over $50 million dollars. TJCF coordinates contributions and distributions for 58 donor advised funds. TJCF provides management supervision for four supporting organizations with over $18 million dollars in assets as well as dozens of restricted and designated funds including Lion of Judah Endowments and Perpetual Annual Campaign Endowments.
The Toledo Jewish community is small but continues to support three synagogues as well as Chabad. Toledo boasts the University of Toledo, the Toledo Mudhens, the nationally recognized Toledo Zoo and the Toledo Museum of Art. Toledo is at the cross-roads of America with easy north/south highway access on I-75 and east/west highway access on I-80. It is within 50 minutes driving to Ann Arbor, 55 minutes to Detroit, 2.5 hours to Cleveland, and 4 hours to Chicago.
- Assist in developing and implementing an overall strategic plan for an integrated FRD model that supports the JFGT and TJCF missions.
- Supervise, manage, evaluate, inspire and develop the FRD team.
- Identify, cultivate, maintain and document relationships with potential and current JFGT/TJCF donors and fund holders in order to propose, secure, document and acknowledge annual and planned legacy gifts.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with local professional advisors including financial planners, insurance professionals and attorneys who provide professional services to potential and current JFGT and TJCF donors to educate and inform regarding the JFGT mission and to encourage FRD for JFGT and TJCF.
- Recruit, develop and inspire volunteers to assist with FRD efforts.
- Provide oversight of administrative procedures for effective use of donor management software and the Foundant CommunitySuite software platform.
- Interface with legal and financial advisors to ensure compliance with legal, financial, fiduciary and JFGT/TJCF management policies.
- Staff TJCF Board, committees and supporting organization meetings, as necessary, and oversee development of meeting agendas, preparation of minutes, and post meeting action follow up.
- Maintain working knowledge of current and relevant estate/gift/charitable planning techniques and their impact on charitable giving.
- Follow and research innovations and trends in Jewish philanthropy.
- Supervise the grant cycles for the TJCF Long Term Community Needs Fund and Supporting Organizations.
- Promote requests for grant proposals, assist donors with grant and donor advised fund distribution opportunities and communicate with grantors regarding the evaluation of completed grants.
- Coordinate annual and planned giving marketing efforts by the FRD team.
- Create, plan, implement and staff events and/or special projects in support of fundraising priorities and leadership engagement.
- Represent JFGT and TJCF at community functions and be a visible presence at events in the Jewish and non-Jewish community, as appropriate and requested.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer with budgeting for the FRD division.
- Develop metrics and benchmarks to measure success in meeting JFGT and TJCF philanthropic goals and in delivering donor services.
- Participate as a member of the JFGT management team and consult with the JFGT Chief Executive Officer on philanthropy related issues.

- Bachelor’s degree required; law degree or other advanced degree in finance, tax or accounting preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in public foundation operations or management, fundraising and planned gift development.
- Knowledge of and facility with fundraising database systems and the use of technology in prospect identification, tracking and research.
- Effective at forging strong interpersonal alliances at all levels both within and outside the organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of Jewish customs, traditions, the Jewish community, and the Federation field required.
Salary commensurate with experience ($110,000-$120,000) plus benefits including healthcare, pension, paid vacation, sick time, cellphone allowance, professional development expenses, YMCA membership.
