Description

Part-time position for Monday or Wednesday evenings, 4:00-7:00 PM (hours may vary slightly). Openings on other days of the week may become available.

The b’nai mitzvah program at JCP is an independent, experiential, Jewish weekly after-school program that prepares children in 6th-7th grade to have b’nai mitzvah ceremonies. The program is a part of the Hebrew School Project (HSP), which serves children in PreK through 12th grade.

HSP is a program of the Jewish Community Project (JCP), a diverse, innovative, inclusive, and open Jewish community and communal space in Lower Manhattan with a meet-you-where-you-are approach.

JCP is looking to hire talented and engaging b’nai mitzvah tutors for the 2025-2026 school year to work one-on-one with learners in a unique preparatory environment. Tutors will work individually with learners on Hebrew, prayer, and Torah reading skills while boosting learners’ self-confidence and positive associations with Jewish tradition and Jewish adult role models. Tutoring primarily takes place Monday and Wednesday afternoons/evenings in-person; openings on other days of the week may become available.

Applicants must:

  • Be able to confidently teach Hebrew reading, Torah trope, and prayer skills
  • Be engaging, enthusiastic, and passionate about Jewish education
  • Be passionate about connecting with and empowering middle schoolers
  • Be excited to honor and celebrate the unique needs and interests of each learner
  • Have experience working in diverse educational settings
  • Be interested in learning and growing as a teacher and as a professional
  • Be a flexible and adaptable team player, open to creative and collaborative work
  • Have an open-minded approach to Judaism and denominationalism
  • Be a self-starter, reliable, and an excellent communicator
  • Be available Mondays or Wednesdays from 4:00-7:00 PM from September 8-May 28
  • Be available to work without visa support

Application Instructions: To apply, send a resumé and brief cover letter to Daphne Logan, Director of the Hebrew School Project, at [email protected].

Starting rate is $50 per 45-minute tutoring session.
