About the Position

Honeymoon Israel’s West Coast Regional Director position is a full-time role intended to provide oversight and ensure excellence of Honeymoon Israel’s programs and engagement work in communities where HMI operates across the West Coast.

Reporting to the Chief Engagement and Program Officer, the Regional Director will ensure the execution of HMI’s programmatic strategy in a select number of Honeymoon Israel communities that they oversee. The West Coast Regional Director will manage a team of up to seven (7) Directors of Community Engagement in various cities as well as providing support and supervision to partner organizations’ affiliate staff, and building a community of practice and support amongst all staff people in their portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Programmatic Management (50%)

  • Support the successful implementation of all programs (pre-trip, trip, and post-trip) across a select number of HMI West Coast communities to realize the organization’s mission of building communities of couples and families who create deep and meaningful connections to Jewish life and the Jewish people?.
  • Collaborate with local Directors of Community Engagement, ensure every HMI community which they oversee develops, implements and maintains a hyper-localized implementation strategy that is aligned with HMI’s national strategy and incorporates local organizational partners and HMI alumni
  • Collaborate with the Chief Advancement Officer on local fundraising opportunities  in every community in the region local. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting HMI’s Institutional Grant Manager for grant proposals and reports, weaving in HMI’s Pay It Forward Model into programming and engagement, and the training of Directors of Community Engagement and affiliate staff to represent HMI in current and prospective funder meetings and local community gatherings
  • Develop and maintain programmatic expertise on up to two (2) areas of impact for the organization, including but not limited to overseeing local implementation of national partnerships and programs such as family camps, community service and alumni leadership councils
  • Act as Program & Engagement liaison and lead with one other HMI department
  • Responsible for reporting to the senior leadership team on designated evaluation measures regarding staff quality and programmatic implementation
  • Partner with the Chief Engagement & Program Officer and Chief Strategy Officer to articulate measurable objectives for each city in the specified region, tracking progress towards these objectives, identifying early indicators of a needed course correction, and supporting local staff in satisfactory progress towards these goals. Oversee region-wide progress towards objectives, identifying points of challenge and strength at the regional level.

Leadership & Supervision (50%)

  • Manage select number of Directors of Community Engagement and local affiliate staff, providing direction and support to ensure successful implementation of program model. 
  • Develop and maintain consistent opportunities (virtually and in person) to convene Directors of Community Engagement and affiliate staff to share learnings and best practices, troubleshoot challenges and provide effective feedback to inform organizational learning and growth. Communicate learnings regularly to Chief Engagement & Program Officer and Chief Strategy Officer for incorporation into national strategy. 
  • Contribute as a collaborative and dynamic participant of the leadership team, working closely with fellow team members to advance HMI’s powerful vision and mission.

 Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years of professional experience
  • Experience in project management and project evaluation including developing and implementing programs and collecting and analyzing data
  • Experience managing and supervising staff and building and contributing to collaborative, cross-functional, high-functioning teams
  • Deep familiarity with Jewish communal life and institutions 
  • Strong written, verbal communication and visual presentation skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with a focus on facilitation, public speaking, and training
  • Experience in community building, community development, and/or alumni relations preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-site and virtual work environment and managing remote/virtual staff a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required

Position Details

  • This position will report directly to Honeymoon Israel’s Chief Engagement & Program Officer 
  • Candidates must reside within the specified West Coast geographic region with close vicinity to a major airport (preferences for Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area)
  • This position will travel to Israel at least once per year, and travel domestically approximately 35% of the year to HMI cities within a specified region and for national staff retreats

Salary range: $80-95k
