The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates to fill the full-time position of High School History and Social Sciences Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year.
 

The ideal candidate is a charismatic, knowledgeable educator with a demonstrated ability to engage students as they teach history and social science courses at the secondary level. Creating strong relationships with students is central to this teacher’s practice. They put students at the center of the learning, helping to develop their critical thinking and analysis skills using a variety of pedagogical tools and practices. The ideal teacher is deeply knowledgeable about the subject area and thrives in a collaborative environment. They have demonstrated success at working as a member of a team and are eager to help students grow to their potential. In addition, they are experienced in guiding students through the historical research process, teaching critical analysis of primary text as a means of understanding history, and helping students with writing analytical essays. 

Pay is commensurate with education and experience and is calculated according to a school-wide pay scale.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Teaching history courses at the high school level, including any combination of courses in World History and US History

  • Teaching social sciences courses which may include Economics and/or Psychology

  • Participating in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss student progress

  • Working collaboratively within the History Department and High School Faculty

  • Student advising

  • Other duties as assigned by the High School Principal

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • BA in history or relevant field; MA preferred but not required

  • Minimum three years of successful teaching experience in collaborative working environments 

  • Experience in differentiated instruction, student-centered instruction and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred

  • Fluency with technology required

  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) required
