Met Council is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. Met Council’s ten different departments are staffed by experts who helped over 305,000 clients in 2020 and continuously advocate on behalf of all needy New Yorkers. Our holistic programs range from 100% affordable housing at 20 locations to our award-winning family violence program to comprehensive Holocaust survivor assistance to senior programming to crisis intervention to the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, 20 affordable housing sites, and 15 JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York.

Position Summary:

As Met Council expands, its Development Department must as well.  We are seeking a new administrative assistant to record contributions, input and manage data, and coordinate events and meetings related to development. As this is a new role on a growing team of 12, there is room for expanded growth.

Please note: This is currently a hybrid position. 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Enter check, wire transfer, and matching gift donations into development department’s database, Salesforce, and reconcile with the fiscal department
  • Oversee production and dissemination of acknowledgment letters and tribute letters
  • Answer phone calls from donors in a polite and professional manner
  • Work alongside direct mail vendor to ensure donor contact information and preferences are up to date
  • Troubleshoot issues with Met Council’s online donations system, Classy, and build online donation pages on Met Council’s website
  • Organize logistics for meetings, including scheduling, sending reminders, and ordering catering
  • Provide administrative assistance, such as writing and editing e-mails, and creating and maintaining spreadsheets
  • Manage the calendar, including making appointments and prioritizing the most sensitive matters
  • Additional responsibilities as required

Competencies:

  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to getting the job done with excellence and enthusiasm
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and conditions
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative when appropriate
  • Strong organization skills, including the ability to see the big picture and to manage small details, and to create and maintain systems that enhance organizational efficiency

Skill and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, Associate’s degree required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce
  • Strong written and verbal communication

Compensation: Starting at $25/hour commensurate with skills, experience, and education
