Position Summary:

The Senior Staff Accountant reports to the Senior Accounting Manager and is responsible for the analysis and accounting of planned gifts and endowments as well as all supporting organizations and Community Trust for Disabled Adults accounts of UJA-Federation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage financial record keeping, tax-form preparation, accounting, and reconciliations for all supporting organizations of UJA-Federation. Tasks include:
  • Track, code, and record contributions, intercompany revenue, and grants to agencies
  • Prepare for federal and state tax filings, including IRS form 990, CHAR-500, etc.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries reflecting financial activity and grantmaking of each supporting organization.
  • Reconcile and record bank statements, cash-available statements, and checks.
  • Handle general accounting and reconciliation as well as tax-form preparation for split-interest gifts (charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts).
  • Prepare journal entries for donations as well as financial transactions at outside institutions.
  • Reconcile accounts for investments held at outside institutions and not included in UJA-Federation’s investment in the New York Jewish Institutions Investment Fund LLC (JIIF).
  • Prepare departmental reports in a timely manner, including:
  • Monthly tracking report
  • Monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash-flow reports
  • Cash analysis of supporting organizations
  • Grants analysis of supporting organizations
  • Investment roll-forward schedules
  • Provide additional support where appropriate, including ad hoc reporting and analyses.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in public and private accounting, preferably in a large corporate, government, or not-for-profit setting.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • Knowledge of FASB rules for accounting of not-for-profit organizations as well as technical elements of split-interest charitable gifts preferred.
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Team player with an ability to work independently.
  • Able to handle multiple assignments and priorities, with excellent communication skills and flexibility in taking on new assignments and learning new skills.

 

Salary Information:

The salary for this role is $85,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
