Congregation Shirat Hayam , Swampscott, MA
Our Vision:
Congregation Shirat Hayam offers multiple pathways to Jewish life, learning, and prayer. We will deliver
the most fulfilling spiritual experience and the best childhood and teen education on the North Shore.
Every encounter with our congregation leaves you feeling welcomed, connected, and enriched. We
embrace our responsibility to invest in strengthening our Jewish community for generations to come.

Shirat Hayam is a unique congregation on Boston’s North Shore, originally formed over
a decade ago by the merger of two seminal Conservative temples. We chose not to
merge our names but to create a new and innovative identity – a congregation that
sings at the sea – with the aim to revitalize and energize our Jewish experience. Our
hope is that together, we will deepen our connection to Jewish wisdom, find new and
meaningful ways to build our Jewish practices, and strengthen our involvement in our
community.
Our strengths include our attention to inclusivity, our commitment to growth and
innovation, and our responsibility to our Jewish community – now and into the future.
For us, inclusivity incorporates both the breadth of our services, who we reach, and the way that we
fund these services. Our Shabbat morning synaplex offers congregants
multiple choices so that they can find the meaning that they seek. From a traditional
minyan service to a Renewal minyan service, from a traditional Torah reading to an
alternative Torah discussion featuring local experts and specialists (Nosh & Drash),
Torah Yoga and Shabbat school for the children, all followed by a lively Ruach Rally led
by our Ruach Rally band and ending in lunch, our synagogue is clearly at the center of
Jewish life and community Shabbat experience.
At CSH, we embrace a voluntary commitment model (T’rumot HaLev) which allows our members to
reflect on and quantify the value that Shirat Hayam brings to them, and to let their
hearts set their financial contribution.
Commitment to growth and innovation embraces the ongoing development of new and
leading-edge offerings and a continuous thirst for new ways to meet our congregation’s
evolving needs. Our creative and engaging High Holy Day hybrid (in-person and virtual) offerings ,our
current program offerings on mental health and our continuing support of our Shir
Chesed activities are all examples of this strength.
We continue to create new pathways and opportunities to meet the needs of our congregants of all
ages, while creating compelling reasons for the unaffiliated to affiliate.
Our strong cadre of lay volunteers, our culture of accessibility and openness, our
combination of multi-generational congregants and new young membership all combine
to support our commitment to create unprecedented meaning in our present as we craft

a future for our families and our community.
