Bethesda Jewish Congregation (BJC)
Bethesda, MD (Unaffiliated)
Spiritual Leader (Rabbi or Cantor)
BJC seeks a flexible and outgoing spiritual leader to serve as our sole clergy, who will be comfortable in our vibrant community, supporting creative Judaism rooted in tradition. Established in 1964, BJC chooses to remain independent, taking a trans-denominational approach to Jewish worship and thought. Our congregation includes 155+ member families. We are known for our love of music and commitment to social justice. Musical ability is strongly preferred, as music and congregant participation infuse all of our services. We have a love of Torah and need a leader conversant in Torah, able to lein and to teach others to do so. BJC is looking to increase family membership and grow its religious school and is seeking someone who will lead educational programming at all ages and levels of knowledge.
BJC serves Jews from traditional and liberal religious backgrounds, as well as secular Jews, interfaith couples, and their families. BJC has a proud history of welcoming anyone who wants to worship and participate with us. BJC is co-located with and has enjoyed an over 50-year relationship with Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church (BHPC) in residential Bethesda, MD, a suburb of Washington, DC. BJC and BHPC also partner with local mosques, engaging in many joint activities, while each remains faithful to its own religious roots.
Starting date is July 1, 2022. The total compensation package range is between $110,000 and $125,000 negotiable and based on experience. We are committed to supporting our permanent Spiritual Leader with a benefits package specific to the needs of the selected candidate.
