Role Overview

Impact the world through enriching the lives of Jewish students by joining Hillel at Stetson University as the Hillel Director. You’ll wake up each day (or at least most) and be genuinely excited about creating an inviting place that inspires students to explore, experience, and create vibrant lives.

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Enrollment, this is a cooperative position with dotted line reporting to the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and act as primary liaison with Office of University Advancement for Jewish donor relations. The Hillel Director role will help shape Hillel as an energetic enterprise that functions as the center for Jewish student life on campus. The Director is responsible for ensuring the strategy and execution of engagement and program development and helping the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life create meaningful and diverse opportunities for Jewish expression, cultivate student leaders, and consistently promote a welcoming and lively pluralistic Jewish community. In addition to supporting the Associate Director of Religious and Spiritual Life to develop, articulate, implement, and create a pluralistic, inclusive, and innovative Jewish educational vision for Hillel, this position will also involve the planning of prospective student recruitment activities, outreach, and travel.


  • Ensure a pluralistic and welcoming atmosphere for all, while ensuring a visible Jewish presence on campus.
  • Cultivate, engage, qualify, persuade, and close prospective students in Florida and in secondary markets, with a specialization related to Jewish student networks. Identify and recruit participants for Stetson Hillel programs, both among the student body as well as prospective students and alumni.
  • Support student-initiated programs, attend programs when appropriate (including evenings, weekends, and especially, Jewish holidays) and assist with off campus, on-campus, and weekend recruitment events.
  • Organize and implement outreach to Jewish students on campus to encourage participation in Hillel programs.
  • Inspire Jewish students to reflect on their Jewish identity and serve as primary resource for Jewish Student Life on campus.
  • Work with students to plan social, recreational, and curricular programs as well as religious services and holiday observances for Hillel.
  • Coordinate and develop strong relations with regional, national and international Hillel organizations.
  • Bridge and develop strategic relationships with different organizations and departments on campus as well as in the local community.
  • Exhibit leadership around financial resource development and cultivate the stakeholders that will help you get there, including lay leaders and local community members and agencies.
  • Add accessible Jewish content and depth to other programs on campus.
  • Demonstrate facility and comfort with Jewish traditions, holidays, culture, and basic texts. Communicate this knowledge to others.
  • Perform other site and position specific functions as assigned.
  • Liaise with University Advancement and Donor Relations to develop Hillel’s financial resources to be on par with the caliber of the institution, the size of the Jewish community, and the needs of the strategic plan.

Minimum Education:  Bachelor's degree

Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and troubleshoot effectively.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • A passion for Jewish identity to encourage and promote a pluralistic and inclusive approach to religious expression through programs, events, and Shabbat/holiday observances on campus.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required (education and/or experience).
  • Experience in recruitment, student engagement, community outreach & organizing, mentorship and ideally in event planning & youth marketing.
  • Prior involvement in Hillel programming or Jewish community-based organizations is preferred but not a requirement to be a considered a qualified candidate. 
  • Knowledge and experience with network management and social networking processes.
