Engagement Coordinator

We are seeking an Engagement Coordinator who will bring fresh ideas, energy, and opportunities to engage the members of our congregation. This role is forward-facing, from engaging our members in small groups to attending events throughout our community. Our ideal candidate will possess skills to help engage our members through programming.  Our Engagement Coordinator will help create opportunities for funding our programs and develop strategies for enhancing our initiatives that aid in securing our mission. This position is responsible for engaging and cultivating our members and soliciting donors of all levels to participate in the growth of Beth El Synagogue.

Our ideal candidate has experience in event planning or programming, Youth or adult Work, or Jewish Camping. Fundraising, Development and Grant writing are key elements to this position.

S/he is a creative thinker, a self-starter, a collaborative professional, and committed to cultivating personal relationships with our families. Candidate is organized, enthusiastic and possesses an energetic drive to bring excellence to everything s/he does.

This full-time position will be a key member of our team, supervised by the Executive Director with a direct line to our Rabbi.

This position does not hold traditional office hours when events or programs are scheduled. Nights and weekends and Holidays are required when events or programs are taking place.

This is a salaried position.


  • Oversee, facilitate and coordinate most events and activities for the congregation including religious celebrations, campus-wide programming, outreach, membership and educational, adult, youth & family, and social action programs.
  • Assists Rabbi, Education Director and Youth Professional with programming ideas and bring those ideas to fruition.
  • Handles all event logistics, ranging from making copies to managing all staff / volunteers and all aspects of events, including overseeing campus calendar and coordinating with the community calendar to ensure no conflicting programing.
  • Act as staff liaison to committees such as social action and membership; work to develop volunteers and committees to create and assist with events
  • Develop relationships with prospective members as well as current members with the ability to identify and cultivate and solicit potential donors, track participation in events and provide metrics.
  • Serve as the interface with both the Jewish media - submit events to the JCC, Jewish Federation community calendar, the Jewish Press newspaper, and other local organizations depending on the event as well as on social media such as Beth El’s Facebook page and Instagram account
  • Identify opportunities for funding, prepare and track grant applications
  • Attend Board meetings and present reports as needed

Note: this is not an employee management position with direct staff member reports This is a team environment where a small staff does everything for the organization


  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure and deadlines - ability to prioritize, manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines (required)
  • Experience in Jewish organization and event management a plus significant knowledge of Jewish culture / holidays required.
  • Excellent project/event management skills, plus a willingness to work a flexible schedule with minimal supervision (full initiative to take on task start to finish
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, volunteers, board, and clergy.
  • Computer proficiency - comfortable using Social Media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), AV platforms including web-streaming services -
  • Must be warm, social and engaging and can relate to a variety of age populations and demographics. Must be enthusiastic, high energy and can have FUN!
  • Work in partnership with lay leadership to create and implement giving programs, cultivating relationships with new prospective donors and current donors.
  • Engage with past and current Board members to assist with their engagement opportunities within the organization.


Minimum 2 years of Programing. Development experience including demonstrated success in individual giving, sponsorship, and special events fundraising a plus

Experience with ShulCloud is highly desirable.

Familiarity with synagogue operations, and non-profits is a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks and special projects
