Educator for B’Nai Mitzvah Program

Kol Halev is seeking a passionate educator to coordinate and facilitate monthly sessions for 5th, 6th and 7th graders on their B’Nai Mitzvah journey.

Kol Halev, is a growing community subscribing to a Reconstructionist approach to Judaism. We seek to attract young, diverse families who seek a nurturing environment for raising Jewish children. Kol Halev is partnering with Moving Traditions (www.movingtraditions.org) to pioneer a new and exciting approach to b-mitzvah that connects Jewish wisdom to the interpersonal and social elements of this coming-of-age ritual. The program includes family education and pre-teen sessions as part of B-mitzvah preparation. Through games, activities and discussion, the Moving Traditions’ sessions—created by rabbis and social workers—will help parents and pre-teens explore what it means to celebrate this milestone, to be the center of attention during a life cycle ritual, to navigate expectations from friends and family, to find Jewish meaning in the ceremony, as well as exploring other social- emotional challenges and joys associated with the b-mitzvah.

The Coordinator/Facilitator for KHL’s B-Mitzvah family/peer program for the 2025-26 school year. The program will use the Moving Traditions curriculum. The program will run from October -- June, with meetings to be held on Sunday evenings. The program will meet ten times approximately every three weeks. 

Responsibilities: the B’Mai Mitzvah coordinator will prepare and co-facilitate monthly sessions with students in the program. The coordinator reports directly to Rabbi Emily Stern. In addition to these program responsibilities, you are also agreeing to complete the Moving Traditions online training and to share evaluation results with Moving Traditions.

Hours: Up to 1.5 hours of preparation per session, up to 2-hours per month for coordination and 2 hours of in-person facilitation time

Renumeration: $40/Hour
