Temple Sholom of Pompano Beach is seeking to engage a part-time Rabbi with local residence for Erev Shabbat and Shabbat services (High Holiday services are not included). This would be from now to possibly after the High Holidays as our current rabbi is on a leave of absence. Although not currently affiliated with USCJ, we generally follow Conservative Judaism practices. As a diverse community, we warmly welcome people wherever they are in their Jewish journey. Founded in 1960, the temple is the longest-standing congregation in eastern Broward County and features a magnificent and historical facility.
The candidate we seek will offer thought-provoking sermons and incorporate commentary and stories scattered through services to keep our worshippers engaged. Openness to the balance of tradition & creative approaches are valued. The ability to act as Kol Bo and carry a tune in a pleasant voice is required, as our cantor is not with us at all services, as well as read Torah. A non-rotational, shortened portion (still 7 aliyot + maftir) has been the most recent tradition.
Time Expectations: All Shabbat mornings, except 1 per month, 2¼ hours + a sweets kiddush or lunch
All Friday evening services, currently on Zoom due to low in-person attendance
Qualifications
Ordained Rabbi who can serve the religious, spiritual, educational and emotional needs of our congregation and can appreciate and foster the diversity of our congregation in terms of our Jewish knowledge, socio-economic status and sexual orientation.
Compensation to be discussed
