Job Title: Jewish Reform Religious School Director
Location: Temple Beth Or – Dayton, OH
Employment Type: Part-Time

About Us:

Temple Beth Or is a warm, inclusive Reform congregation located in Dayton, Ohio. We are deeply committed to nurturing a vibrant Jewish identity in our community through spiritual, educational, and cultural experiences. Our religious school, MAKOR, serves students from Pre-K through 12th grade and is the heart of our youth education program.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic, organized, and passionate Religious School Director to oversee and manage MAKOR, our Pre-K through 12th-grade religious and Hebrew school program. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, vision, and educational expertise to foster meaningful Jewish learning experiences, both in person and online.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Leadership

  • Implementing age-appropriate curricula for different age groups, including Pre-K through 12th grade.
  • Manage pre B'nai Mitzvah Hebrew instruction (both in person and online).
  • Ensuring the curriculum balances Jewish values, Hebrew language, and Jewish history. 
  • Supports the development of lesson plans, teacher guides, and digital resources.
  • Develop school-wide incentive programs encouraging students to participate in a grade oriented Shabbat services and holiday events.  

Staff Supervision

  • Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising teachers, madrichim (teaching assistants), and other educational staff. 
  • Providing professional development opportunities for staff. 
  • Evaluating staff performance and providing feedback. 

Administration

  • Managing budgets, including allocating funds for educational resources and programs. 
  • Overseeing administrative details for off-site programs. 
  • Creating and maintaining the school calendar and communicating with families. 
  • Assigning students to appropriate classes. 
  • Developing a process on a regular basis for providing families feedback to families regarding student progress and class content. 

Community Engagement and Marketing:

  • Communicating with families and marketing to the broader community about educational programs. 
  • Contribute to monthly Temple newsletter column.

Qualifications:

  • At least 1+ years of experience in educational program development, preferably in a Jewish educational setting.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage teachers, families, and congregants.
  • Knowledge of Jewish traditions, Shabbat, and holiday practices.
  • Proficiency in coordinating budgets and facility logistics.
  • Comfortable with technology for communication and online programming.
