About our Congregation 

Beth Sholom is a Conservative Jewish congregation of over 200 families that serves the community of Frederick, MD. Our new part-time Programming & Engagement Coordinator will be joining us at a time of dynamic growth, particularly among our younger families.

Job Description:

The Food Service Director is responsible for the management of the synagogue kitchen, the coordination of food needs for all b’nai mitzvot and synagogue events at which food will be served, the direction of the volunteer staff preparing food and maintaining the supply of food and kitchen supplies needed for food preparation.

Required Special Skills

  • Knowledge of the laws of kashrut (Mashgiach experience a plus)
  • Prior experience working in a kosher kitchen
  • Cooking skills
  • Team leadership

Work Hours
Position is part-time and will require flexible hours, based around shopping for supplies, food preparation times, and serving and breakdown times for various events.

Anticipated work hours include approximately 2 hours per week for shopping, 2 to 4 hours of time on Fridays for Shabbat food preparation, and a minimum of 3 hours (mid-day) expected each Saturday for serving Shabbat lunch. Additional hours, includ-ing weekends and evenings, will be required for Shabbat and other possible syna-gogue events involving food service.

Position reports to the Executive Director.


This is a non-benefited position but does include a free synagogue membership.


Salary range is 18.00 to 25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
