Synagogue in Hudson County NJ is looking for a full time Building Operations Manager to care for our 2 buildings, inside and out.  The right person for this job will develop pride in the care of our 100+ year old building and our 25 year old school.  This leadership position reports to the Administrative Director and works closely with the managers of the educational and social programs.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for appearance, cleanliness, and maintenance of the 2 buildings and outside grounds
  • Manages vendor relationships and work. This includes (but not limited to):
    • New and ongoing construction and repairs
    • Cleaning Service
    • Paper and Cleaning supplies
    • Security
    • Service Contracts
  • Hiring, training, scheduling and supervising custodial and porter staff
  • Day to day facilities usage including:
    • Verifies group room usage
    • Clarifies all set up and equipment needs
    • Responsible for breaking down and re-setting rooms based on the calendar day
    • Maintain and sets up all audio/visual equipment
  • Store and maintain all furniture and equipment in an orderly and neat manner
  • Maintains and cares for all ritual objects, siddurim, and furnishings
  • Works within established budgets, forecasts and supervises the physical resources of the facility
  • Conducts and documents regular facilities inspections
  • Recommends maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility design modifications


  • 3 - 5 years experience working in building management
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Detail Oriented

  • Establishes and maintains postive working relationships with others, internally and externally
  • Demonstrates a willingness to be flexible, versatile and tolerant in a changing work environment
  • Working knowledge of Google, Microsoft (word, excel) and comfortable with learning new computer softwares
  • Handy man skills 
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree preferred

Physical Demands:

The physical described here in are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, operate office machinery, carry, push, pull or move objects.  The employee is frequently required to reach and stretch with hands and arms, stand, walk and bend.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
