Description

The David Ari and Michael Eric Zukin Religious School at Kesher Israel is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and engaging educator to join our Religious School team as a teacher in our 7th/8th Grade Gesher class on Sunday mornings. This teacher will focus on helping students continue developing a strong Jewish identity through the study and practice of Jewish values, meaningful community service activities, and active participation in Jewish prayer and spiritual life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement dynamic and age-appropriate lesson plans focused on:
    • Jewish values (e.g., tzedakah, tikkun olam, derech eretz)
    • Ethical decision-making and Jewish perspectives on social justice
    • Community service projects that connect classroom learning to real-world action
    • Prayer literacy and participation, fostering spiritual engagement and personal connection to Jewish tradition
  • Facilitate regular class discussions, text study, and experiential learning opportunities
  • Plan and supervise hands-on service-learning activities and student-led community service projects
  • Collaborate with clergy, educators, and parents to integrate prayer, Jewish values, and service into the broader life of the school and congregation
  • Support students’ preparation for their B'nai Mitzvah journeys, helping them connect personal meaning to communal responsibility
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment where all students feel seen and valued
  • Support, help organize, attend, and lead occasional educational field trips
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as needed

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Jewish texts, values, and prayer practices
  • Experience working with middle school students in a formal or informal Jewish educational setting
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
  • A passion for teaching and inspiring Jewish identity in adolescents
  • Ability to integrate technology, music, and creativity into lessons is a plus

Preferred Qualities:

  • Enthusiastic, flexible, and student-centered educator
  • Committed to building positive relationships with students and families
  • Comfortable collaborating with clergy, educators, and lay leaders
  • Knowledge of Hebrew is a plus, but not required
