Youth Engagement Coordinator - Teens

The Youth Engagement Coordinator for Teens (YEC-T) develops and oversees and leads as appropriate, weekly Shabbat morning and Chaggim youth education programs as well as oversees the Temple’s teen youth group, USY, and its advisor.

The position includes program management and curriculum development oversight.

The YEC-S will foster a supportive, creative, and dynamic setting for all programs, working collaboratively with the YEC Pre-Bnai Mitzvah, Youth Committee, USY and Kadima youth group advisors, and Torah Time and Mini Minyan directors/leaders.

This is a part-time position (8 hours per week), with some Saturday, Sunday and yom tov hours.

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Oversee Shabbat morning youth services
    • Youth-led Mini-Minyan and Peer-led Teen Minyan
    • Identify and develop additional programs that may be needed
  • Plan, promote and deliver Shabbat "lunch 'n learn" program for Post B’nai Mitzvah (using an established Chai Mitzvah curriculum)
  • Outreach to Temple-affiliated and unaffiliated Highland Park area families with teens to engage them and their children in appropriate Temple programs
  • Program responsibilities include:
    • Record maintenance, including registration and budget information
    • Logistics, including ordering program refreshments and materials
    • Program promotion, including creating promotional materials
    • Outreach to the community beyond HPCT-CAE
  • Develop and run teen programs for Haggim (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Hanukah, Purim, Pesach and Shavuot),.
  • Oversee the USY Youth Advisor(s)
    • Work with the Advisor(s) to coordinate programming with overall teen programming
    • Assure the Advisor(s) is
      • promoting youth group participation
      • developing, promoting and implementing programs in a timely way
      • maintaining appropriate records
      • communicating with youth, families and Temple staff in a timely way
    • Present
      • A brief monthly written report to the Temple Board of Trustees, summarizing program participation
      • A bi-annual written report with suggestions and recommended program modifications.
    • Bi-annual program evaluation with parents and students (Teens)

The successful candidate:

  • Minimally, holds a bachelor’s degree with a BA in Education, Judaic studies or comparable experience
  • Has experience in creating and implementing innovative and fun learning experiences
  • Is skilled at engaging with teens and parents
  • Is skilled at using social media and other modalities to promote events
  • Has knowledge of community networks for outreach purposes

Salary Range

$10,400 - $11,440 year (based on 8 hours/week Oct - June)
$36 - $40/hour

Highland Park Conservative Temple – Congregation Anshe Emeth, located in central NJ with Rutgers University in its “backyard,” is a member of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) with an active, “shul-going” congregation. Highland Park is a small community with many synagogues, kosher restaurants, and a kosher grocery store. A “walking community” we are 30 miles from Manhattan, within walking distance of the New Brunswick train station.
