Position Summary:
The Senior Program Manager is a key leadership position focused on enhancing the quality, reach, and impact of programming at Congregation Emanu-El. This newly established role aligns with our transition into a beautifully renovated building, bringing exciting opportunities for innovation, creativity, and deeper community engagement.
Reporting directly to the Director of Programs and Creative Strategy, the Senior Program Manager will play a key role in designing and executing adult member engagement initiatives for diverse cohorts, ensuring the successful delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of programs. Over time, the Senior Program Manager will lead the day-to-day operations of the Programs Department, including supervising two Program Managers, fostering cross-departmental collaboration, and managing departmental budgets.
The Senior Program Manager will provide essential support to the Director of Programs and Creative Strategy in the planning and execution of large-scale holiday celebrations and marquee events. They will also work closely with the Director of Membership to ensure members are aware of and connected to the full range of program offerings.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Program Development
- Design and implement adult engagement programs (e.g., grief support, divorce support, empty nester groups).
- Launch and support lay-led affinity and interest groups, including training and ongoing mentorship.
- Serve as on-site staff liaison for congregant gatherings and meetups.
- Develop targeted programming for members in their 40s–60s, fostering deeper connections.
- Collaborate with the Membership Department to align programming with recruitment and retention goals.
Team Leadership and Department Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Programs Department to ensure consistent, high-quality program implementation.
- Develop systems and workflows that promote departmental efficiency and cross-functional collaboration.
- Develop and manage detailed project timelines, milestones, and budgets.
- Monitor expenses regularly to ensure adherence to the budget and utilize project management tools to track budget allocations and expenditures.
- Ensure all stakeholders are aligned and informed throughout the project lifecycle.
- With time, supervise and mentor two Program Managers, providing clear guidance and accountability.
Strategic Collaboration & Director Support
- Provide direct support to the Director of Programs and Creative Strategy in the execution of high-level events, holiday celebrations, and marquee speaker engagements.
- Assist in translating the Director’s strategic vision into actionable programming plans, timelines, and systems.
- Coordinate logistics and ensure alignment of programming initiatives with organizational goals as directed.
- Support cross-departmental initiatives by executing tasks assigned by the Director, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Handle administrative responsibilities such as ordering supplies, scheduling meetings, and preparing materials to facilitate the Director’s projects.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Track attendance, feedback, and engagement metrics to assess program impact.
- Identify areas for improvement and present recommendations to leadership.
- Participate in team debriefs and planning sessions to refine member experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Minimum 3-4 years of experience in program/project management, community engagement, or related areas.
- Proven success in designing and executing impactful programs and events.
- Strong understanding of Jewish culture, traditions, and holidays.
- Proficiency with project management tools and software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead and collaborate across teams.

- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and time management.
- Empathetic and authentic approach to member engagement.
Requirements:
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and Jewish holidays.
