Job Title: Religious School Classroom Aide

FLSA Status: Hourly From: $45 – $60 to commensurate with experience
Schedule: 2 – 5 hours per week (In-Person)
Reports to: Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning

Congregation Emanu-El, the first Reform Jewish synagogue in New York City, is hiring a part-time religious school aide for our Downtown Religious School Lab. Openings:

• In-person classroom aide (Grades K-2)

Core Responsibilities:

Support students with various learning needs inside and outside the classroom (i.e., transitions, group programs). 

• Prompting refocusing and redirection
• Clarification of expectations
• Sensory supports
• Providing opportunities for structured breaks outside of the classroom
• Willingness to work collaboratively with educators
• Attending paid professional development sessions for faculty outside of school hours
• Providing a sense of caring and concern that enables our students to support one another and challenge themselves to grow as individuals
• Meet regularly with the Department of Lifelong Learning Inclusion Team to discuss student needs and continuing support.

Ability to work one-on-one with students who have significant behavioral challenges and be comfortable handling physical behaviors.

• When and Where: Wednesday (2:30 pm – 5:15 pm) in person at our Emanu-El Downtown Religious School Lab

Additional opportunities may be available Sundays (9:00 - 12:00) and Mondays (3:30 - 6:00) in person at our Temple Emanu-El Religious School, Upper East Side

The Ideal Candidate:

• Person(s) with experience in classroom or informal education, such as Jewish camp or afterschool programs in grades Pre-K through 8
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Comfortable teaching in a Reform Jewish congregation to a diverse student body
• Candidates must reside within the New York City tri-state area
