Bet Am Shalom, a Reconstructionist congregation in White Plains, NY is now hiring teachers for our 2022-2023 school year, to teach elementary, middle and high school classes in our Torah La'am educational program.
Bet Am Shalom includes families from all over Westchester County, NY who are interested in finding an open, warm, inclusive community that embraces progressive thinking and traditional Jewish practice. At Torah La'am our teachers use an inquiry-based, child-centered approach; we encourage students to explore their relationship with Judaism through text, the Arts, music and prayer, and Tikkun Olam. We view and teach Hebrew as a vibrant, living language which connects us both to our traditional texts and liturgy and the modern State of Israel.
Currently we are seeking:
An early childhood educator for our Sunday morning Nitzanim class (kindergarten and first graders.) Candidates should be familiar with the alef-bet and be eager to introduce young children to the basic themes of the Jewish calendar with a creative, hands on approach.
Teachers for our elementary classes which meet Sunday mornings and wednesday afternoons. Candidates should have basic Hebrew reading and comprehension skills, and comfort with a progressive, pluralistic approach to Jewish literacy, history, and values.
Teachers for our middle and high school classes which will be meeting Monday or Wednesday evenings. Our teen program is designed to help our students deepen their connection to Judaism post-bar/bat mitzvah through social programming, the arts, and service projects, as well as to provide a supportive environment in which they can grapple with relevant issues through a Jewish lense.
Teachers receive close supervision from the Director of Family Education and Engagement and meet as a team over dinner once a month.
