Description

Brandeis Hebrew Academy, a thriving Modern Orthodox Jewish Day School on Long Island, is seeking an inspiring and dedicated Middle School Rabbi to serve as a spiritual leader, educator, and role model for our students. This is a unique and deeply fulfilling opportunity to shape the Jewish identity, values, and practice of the next generation.

Position Overview:
The Middle School Rabbi plays a central role in the spiritual life of the school, guiding students in their religious development and Jewish learning. The Rabbi will foster a love of Torah, mitzvot, and Midot Tovot while making Judaism vibrant, joyful, and personally meaningful. This individual will also help develop and implement schoolwide Jewish programming and curriculum, and build strong relationships with students, families, faculty, and the broader Jewish community.

Key Responsibilities:

Religious and Spiritual Leadership

  • Serve as a daily presence in the school, beginning with student arrival and continuing through dismissal (7:45am–4:15pm).

  • Lead daily tefillah, Minchabirkat hamazon, and coordinate netilat yadayim at lunch.

  • Organize and lead Rosh Chodesh events, Shabbat celebrations, holiday programming, and school Shabbatonim.

  • Oversee the school’s tefillah curriculum in collaboration with the Jewish Curriculum Coordinator.

  • Support Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation: maintain event schedules, meet with students and families, coordinate projects, and teach relevant halachot and customs.

  • Provide spiritual guidance for life cycle events and foster deep connections with each student.

  • Coordinate grade-level Jewish milestone events and seek opportunities to enhance their significance.

  • Organize the annual Israel trip, Chesed Fair, and programs promoting Jewish values and midot.

  • Create engaging visual content on the Rabbi’s Bulletin Board to highlight Jewish life at Brandeis.

  • Develop weekly parshat hashavua programming for all grade levels.

  • Attend Board meetings and share meaningful divrei Torah.

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Teach Judaic subjects such as Chumash, Navi, Mishnah, Gemara, Jewish values, and—if needed—Jewish history.

  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to shape a forward-thinking, mission-aligned Judaic curriculum.

  • Help evaluate and select Judaic Studies resources and textbooks.

Cultural and Community Leadership

  • Be a role model of Torah values and inspire a culture of spiritual growth and ethical behavior throughout the school.

  • Promote strong connections to Israel and help build a culture of ahavat Yisrael.

  • Develop and enhance the Chesed program in partnership with PTA, staff, and community organizations.

  • Offer guidance to students and parents on religious and spiritual matters.

  • Facilitate meaningful adult education opportunities and family engagement experiences.

  • Represent the school at recruitment events and support outreach to prospective families and faculty.

  • Build partnerships with local and national Jewish organizations, educators, and clergy to enrich our school community.

Qualifications:

  • Ordination from a recognized institution (smicha required).

  • Strong background in Jewish education, with classroom experience at the middle school level.

  • Inspirational leadership style, warm interpersonal skills, and a deep love for students.

  • Passion for Jewish learning and practice, with the ability to bring ruach and meaning to every interaction.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage a diverse parent and student body.

This is a full-time position, designed for a passionate educator who sees the school as both a classroom and a community.
