Position Overview: Independent Contractor - Bookkeeper

We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Bookkeeper to manage our day-to-day financial operations. The primary component of this role is overseeing and maintaining our Shulcloud database for accurate record-keeping, generating financial reports, and ensuring the integrity of our financial data. The ideal candidate will possess strong bookkeeping skills and demonstrated proficiency in using Shulcloud for financial management and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Working out of our Thousand Oaks location, this role reports to our Executive Director and our Treasurer.
  • Collaborating with our existing third party vendor to manage all aspects of Temple Etz Chaim's bookkeeping functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
  • Utilize Shulcloud to record financial transactions, generate invoices, track payments, and manage member accounts.
  • Working with Executive Director to process payroll in a timely manner.
  • Generate regular financial reports from Shulcloud, including but not limited to income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Proactively identify and follow up on member accounts with outstanding balances using Shulcloud reports.
  • Reconcile Shulcloud financial data with other financial records to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation.
  • Maintain the accuracy of financial information within the Shulcloud database.
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant bookkeeping practices and Shulcloud financial features.
  • Assist with monitoring monthly reporting and seeking inaccuracies.
  • Respond to member inquiries regarding billing and payments.
  • Perform other bookkeeping and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, preferably in a non-profit or membership-based organization.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and thorough expertise in using Shulcloud for financial management and reporting is required. Previous training in ShulSchool a plus.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Associate's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.

Compensation:

This role will begin as part-time. $50/hour x max 15 hours per week.
