THE ROLE 

The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Camp George  seeks an organized Business Manager to help run a smart business allowing camp to operate the business for sustained growth and deepening of program impact. The Business Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of accounting, financial management and business operations for all camp and youth programs. The portfolio includes oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, budget-tracking, Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) financial policies and practice, reporting and other related tasks. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

As a member of a camp team, you are helping to create communities of belonging that build confidence and character of young people, so they are inspired as leaders to make the world a better place and pursue lifelong engagement in Jewish life. More specifically, the Business Manager reports to the Camp Director and is responsible for the following: 

ACCOUNTING AND BUSINESS OPERATIONS (BUSINESS & CAMP OFFICES) 

  • Manage camp and youth accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, reconciliation, banking (deposits and transfers), and petty cash systems and processes. 
  • Oversee contact with camp families and synagogues relating to account balances, payments, and fees due. 
  • Manage processes related to camp and youth program enrollment, including, but not limited to deposits, payments, refunds, special payment plans, grants, fee assistance process, as well as credit card transactions in accordance with CampMinder (registration system) and URJ systems. 
  • Manage financial and administrative processes related to staff payroll, including the timely payment of staff and communication with URJ Youth payroll staff. Directly execute these functions for camp and youth programs. 
  • Manage year-round staff’s time and attendance requirements according to URJ payroll policies. 
  • Manage financial and administrative process related to accounts payable and vendor relations including but not limited to managing invoices, payments, and manual check processing.  
  • Continuously evaluate and assess vendor relationship and ensure camp is getting best possible pricing (in partnership with Director and other Professional Staff, as needed and appropriate). 
  • Partner with camp director(s) to create and manage the annual budgeting review process, quarterly projections, and year-round tracking of revenues against expenditures. 
  • Directly manage the expense reimbursement process for year-round camp staff. 
  • Responsible for creating accurate and timely weekly financial reports and the execution of monthly financial reports as required by the URJ. These may include but are not limited to budget projection reports, development fund monthly reports, financial reports required by central finance department and more.   
  • Oversee insurance-related processes including but not limited to workers comp, camper insurance, vehicle, annual collection of certificates of insurance and general insurance needs. Execute these processes for camp and youth programs. 
  • Oversee and manage banking and cash management, petty cash, forecasting and monitoring cash balances, including processing electronic payments to vendors. 
  • Manage, process, and reconciliation the corporate credit card. 
  • Timely filing of HST (tax filing) and WSIB (workman’s compensation filing). 
  • Support of external audit. 
  • Reconcile monthly intercompany accounts (revenue and expenses), contribution revenue reconciliation with Salesforce, record cash receipts transactions in a timely manner. 
  • Coordinate with Canada Revenue Agency as needed. 
  • Maintain tax receipts for charitable portion of camp fees.

  • Business Sense: Experience in a business environment and knowledge of financial management and bookkeeping systems. Able to prioritize organizational systems and decisions in relation to the overall financial health of the organization. 
  • Communication: Effective oral and written communication skills and able to utilize and different forms of relevant media. 
  • Organization, Planning, and Multitasking: Advanced organizational and planning skills. Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multitask with minimal supervision. Ability to coordinate activities.  
  • Self-Management and Teamwork: Ability to work independently or as a member of the team, be detail-oriented and consistently accurate, manage stress effectively in a fast-paced environment, and quickly learn new processes and procedures.  
  • Relationship Management: Impeccable skills in leveraging effective working relationships and influencing key stakeholders in support of business goals. Customer service oriented. 
  • REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion). Demonstrated experience and/or willingness to prioritize and execute on Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQ+ Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities.
