Executive Director Job Description
Temple Beth Tikvah, a vibrant Reform congregation of more than 350 families established in 1987 in Roswell, GA, seeks an Executive Director. The successful candidate will work closely with our senior rabbi, our outstanding staff, and an engaged Board of Trustees to support and advance the goals of the congregation. The Executive Director duties include the following:
Administration:
- Effectively manage and guide day-to-day operations
- Develop and promote effective communication across senior rabbi, staff, board, and congregation
- Manage relationships with outside vendors and contractors
- Manage and document effective policies, practices, procedures
- Ensure accuracy of membership information, records, and reporting
- Provide oversight of communications across all TBT platforms
- Maintaining the TBT community calendar
- Support other work of the senior rabbi, staff, and board as needed
Member and Community Engagement:
- Foster a warm, welcoming environment as the primary point of contact for the needs, questions, and concerns for the TBT community (members, prospective members, volunteers, and staff)
- Support congregants through the planning and execution of simchas and lifecycle events
- Manage the logistics of religious services
- Manage the logistics for synagogue events and programs with the senior rabbi, board, and board committees
Human Resources Management:
- Manage all administrative, financial, and facilities personnel
- Lead, supervise, and engage staff with team building, and training
- Develop and implement well-defined performance metrics and professional goals
- Maintain a collaborative, respectful work environment built on trust, clear expectations, and accountability that attracts, retains, and motivates staff
- Manage employee compensation, benefit programs, and policies, and ensure legal compliance
- Lead regular staff meetings
Finance Management:
- Works closely with the investment committee, budget and finance committee, and board treasurer to manage the financial operations of the congregation, including the annual budget, financial planning and forecasting, accounting, and reporting.
- Act as staff liaison with the endowment board
- Communicate and collaborate equitably with members and prospective members on their financial obligation options to the congregation with compassion and confidentiality
- Oversee financial systems and controls and conduct insurance reviews to safeguard the assets of the congregation
- Work with Treasurer VP of Finance to address communications and services regarding lapsed members, resignations, and nonpayment of commitments
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable local, state, federal, and URJ regulations
- Support fundraising efforts, including annual campaigns, major gifts, and endowment development
Facility Management:
- Manage the building facilities staff, events, and operations
- Primary point of contact for facility emergencies
- Manage security training, scheduling, procedures, testing, and infrastructure
- Primary point of contact for booking of synagogue space, events (including staff scheduling and coverage), and service provider coordination to ensure functions run smoothly
- Manage utility contracts, repairs, vendors, and contractors who perform building and grounds maintenance and repairs
- Oversee usage and maintenance of the kosher kitchen
- Collaborate with the president and board to maximize the revenue potential of facilities
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree plus at least five (5) years’ experience with demonstrated success in organizational management
- Ability to manage all synagogue operations as outlined above
- Collaborative, reflective leadership style, with experience building empowered teams and fostering individual accountability
- Experience supervising staff, including facilities and administrative staff
- Experience working collaboratively with not-for-profit boards
- Highly organized self-starter and adept multitasker
- Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets
- Familiarity with MS Office Suite and/or Google Office Suite. Familiarity with Shul Cloud a plus
- Outstanding communication, delegation, and interpersonal skills
- Strong service orientation toward members and community
- Experience managing facilities and events, and availability to participate in events outside standard business hours
- A passion for and commitment to Reform Jewish values; non-profit experience with a membership-based Jewish organization a big plus
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 plus benefits, commensurate with experience. A limited relocation package may be provided.
