Temple Emanuel, a dynamic Conservative synagogue in Newton, MA, is seeking a Part-Time Afterschool Program Teacher to join our Kesher Hebrew-immersive afterschool program. This position is part of our vibrant Education Department, which supports a fast-paced, collaborative, and warm environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in educational or religious school settings, a strong background in Jewish culture, and proficiency in Hebrew language. We are looking for someone who brings energy, creativity, and care to their teaching, and who is passionate about fostering a joyful Jewish learning experience.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a lively environment. Comfort interacting with both children and adults is essential, along with a collaborative attitude and a deep respect for Jewish traditions and community life.

 

  • Mondays: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Wednesdays: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

About the Program

Temple Emanuel’s Kesher Afterschool Program is a warm, engaging, Hebrew-immersive Jewish learning environment for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5. We blend language, culture, and community through play, learning, and meaningful Jewish experiences.

Position Overview

We are seeking a caring, energetic, and responsible individual to join our team as a teacher in our Hebrew-immersive afterschool program. This role involves both classroom and supervisory responsibilities, supporting children’s social, emotional, and educational growth in a nurturing Jewish setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Walking Group Leader: Safely lead a supervised walking group from a nearby public school to Temple Emanuel.
  • Afterschool Supervision: Oversee playtime, snack time,  transitions between activities, and arrival & dismissal.
  • Hebrew Instruction: Teach or assist in teaching a Hebrew language class using immersive and interactive methods.
  • Substitute Teaching: Serve as an in-house substitute teacher when needed.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other educators and staff to create a positive and inclusive environment.
