The Senior Associate, AJC Middle East, works closely with the Assistant Director, AJC Middle East; Director, Middle East and North Africa Initiatives; and the Chief Policy and Political Affairs Officer to ensure that the work of AJC Middle East is shared agency-wide – and that relevant AJC offices/departments are consulted and engaged on crucial Middle East-related programming. 

The Senior Associate, AJC Middle East, will also oversee the coordination of major events with relevant departments, serve as the department’s chief notetaker, regularly update briefing papers, draft weekly AJC Middle East bulletins, and organize Project Interchange delegations. 

The Senior Associate, AJC Middle East, will do all this while adhering to AJC’s core values: Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Excellence, and Accountability.

Responsibilities

Oversees Coordination of Major AJC Events

  • Manage the logistics of AJC Middle East’s engagement during Diplomatic Marathon, leading in embassy engagement and coordinating meetings with senior Arab officials;
  • Manage the logistics of AJC Middle East’s Global Forum engagement, helping to set meetings with key Arab Ambassadors and coordinating programs for Arab delegates;
  • Work closely with the Assistant Director, AJC Middle East, to streamline regular coordination with central AJC departments. 

 Supports AJC Middle East’s Diplomatic Engagement

  • Maintain updated diplomatic briefing papers for the AJC Middle East coverage area, and for other countries/regions as assigned;
  • Serve as AJC Middle East’s chief notetaker, sharing key updates with relevant AJC staff and lay leaders;   
  • Cultivate ties with diplomatic and civil society interlocutors;
  • Create a weekly Middle East newsletter to be shared with relevant AJC staff and lay leaders.

 Organizes AJC Middle East’s International Delegations and Missions

  • Work in close cooperation with AJC Project Interchange to create, plan, and organize regular visits of Arab delegations to Israel;
  • Organize regular visits of Arab and Israeli leaders to Washington, DC. 

 Coordinate with the AJC Director of U.S. Diplomatic Engagement

  • Work with AJC Assistant Director, Middle East, to support the AJC Director of U.S. Diplomatic Engagement with Advocacy in Action lunches during Global Forum and coordination efforts during Diplomatic Marathon in New York through 2024;
    • Focus will be on Middle East nations and selected others, as assigned;
  • Support the Director of U.S. Diplomatic Engagement on the AJC-Adenauer Leadership exchange program and on future Diplomatic Exchanges in Washington through 2024;
  • Coordinate and help lead diplomatic meetings associated with the Washington Regional Office’s Diplomatic Taskforce, focused on selected countries, as assigned, through 2024;
  • Assist in other duties, including coordinating diplomatic meetings and managing briefing paper tracker, and updating the diplomatic database, through 2024.

 Personal Qualifications and Core Competencies:

  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience 
  • Academic background and/or strong interest in Middle East policy and International Relations 
  • Understanding of Israeli society and politics
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Research experience, either academic or professional 
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills 
  • Respect for and adherence to confidentiality 
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through 
  • A self-starter, willing to take the initiative 
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure 
  • Computer skills: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint 
  • A demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards and values consistent with those of AJC

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $65,000, depending on relevant experience.
