Synagogue Administrator & Bookkeeper (Flexible Role)

Salary Range: $18/hr – $26/hr (depending on role and experience-details below)
Hours: Approx. 15–20 hours/week (if combined), flexible scheduling
Overview
Darchei Noam is a joyful, inclusive, non-denominational Jewish community. Guided by Torah, prayer, music, and acts of kindness, we create a home where belonging, healing, and sacred purpose flourish.
We are seeking a talented professional to support our synagogue’s operations. This position may be structured as one combined role (Administrator + Bookkeeper) or split into two part-time roles depending on the candidate’s skills and availability.
Option A: Combined Role (Administrator + Bookkeeper)
A versatile professional who manages both synagogue administration and financial systems. This role blends organizational support, communications, event coordination, and bookkeeping to ensure smooth daily operations and fiscal integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage financial systems in QuickBooks and ShulCloud
- Reconcile accounts, process payroll, and ensure compliance with state/federal law
- Track fundraising, donor acknowledgments, and event income
- Collaborate with clergy, staff, and leadership on budgeting, reporting, and audits
- Oversee office logistics, purchasing and supplies
- Coordinate communications (email, flyers, newsletters, social media, website updates, internal staff)
- Support the engagement committee with event planning, registration, and post-event financial reporting.
- Assist with accurate membership and activity records
- Maintain records in ShulCloud
Option B: Synagogue Administrator (Part-Time)
Focus on daily operations, communications, and member engagement.
Salary Range: $18/hr – $23/hr
Hours: Approx. 10 hours/week, mainly on-site
Option C: Bookkeeper (Part-Time)
Focus on financial management, reporting, and compliance.
Salary Range: $20/hr – $26/hr
Hours: Approx. 10 hours/week, mostly remote with limited on-site presence
Qualifications (Combined or Split Role)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience in administration, nonprofit synagogue management, and/or bookkeeping/accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks Online, ShulCloud, and online banking
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
- Commitment to inclusion, professionalism, and Jewish communal values
- Desire to integrate into the Darchei Noam community
- Located within short commute of Synagogue
Schedule & Work Environment
- Flexible part-time hours; some on-site evenings and weekends required for events/holidays
- Administrator role primarily on-site; Bookkeeper role primarily remote with some in-person hours (day, evening, weekend flexibility)
