The Ottawa Kosher Food Bank (OKFB) is a Jewish charitable initiative based at Kehillat Beth Israel synagogue, dedicated to providing healthy kosher food to Ottawa families in need. We are now inviting applications for the role of Director of the OKFB to help lead our important work.

About Kehillat Beth Israel (KBI)

Key Responsibilities of the Director of the OKFB
Reporting to KBI’s Executive Director:
- The Director manages the OKFB by leading, coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the OKFB.
- The Director manages the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers.
- The Director works collaboratively with partners to increase the contribution of food or non-food items and donations for the OKFB.
- The Director is responsible for guiding the OKFB in achieving desired goals, allocating resources (volunteers, staff, and financial) and prioritizing actions.
- The Director, with support, is responsible for developing, implementing and seeking approval for appropriate financial management activities for the OKFB.
- The Director undertakes communication and outreach activities to increase engagement with clients, staff, volunteers, partners and stakeholders.
- The Director plays a key role in fundraising and donor relations for the OKFB.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated strategic and analytical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to successfully multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Experience with budgeting activities.
- Proficiency in MS Office or other equivalent systems.
- Negotiation and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build productive relationships.
- Knowledge and understanding of the laws of Kashrut.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for a food bank or non-profit organization.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations, quality and nutritional standards, best practices in food handling and storage.
- Experience using Link 2 Feed.
- Experience with procurement.
- Experience and understanding of financial management and strategic planning activities.
- Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
- Understanding of Jewish holidays and associated dietary obligations and traditions.
Experience can come from a variety of areas such as education, volunteer work, or professional work experience. The type and quality of the experience will be an important consideration.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting salary: $60,000 CAD, commensurate with experience. KBI offers a robust benefits package including:

Additional Information
- This is a full-time, in-person leadership role based in Ottawa, Ontario.
- Fluency in English is required; French or Hebrew are assets.
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Candidates must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events and programming.
