Youth Advisor & Religious School Assistant
Congregation Ahavath Chesed, a Reform temple in Jacksonville, Florida seeks an engaging, energetic, inspiring, and responsible adult to help create and grow our youth program. At the Temple, we envision a strong relationship between our youth program and our Religious School (Temple Institute of Religion, or TIR); the youth program is a partner and collaborator to help grow and deepen the connections between our kids and our community. This position reports directly to the Director of Congregational Learning.
Job Responsibilities
• Plan and oversee youth group programming for grades K-12
- Assist the Director of Congregational Learning on Sundays
• Lead an elective for TIR’s students on Sundays
• Teach Hebrew on Tuesdays
- Provide leadership training to our post-b’nai mitzvah teens (JAFTY/Madrichim)
• Find opportunities to engage the unengaged
• Attend NFTY retreats with TIR’s students
- Be a Jewish role model
Communication
• Maintain regular communication with the Director of Congregational Learning, along with youth group members and their parents
- Develop promotional materials for youth group events
• Foster relationships with our children, teens, and their parents
• Collaborate with other local Jewish community youth groups
Minimum skills and requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree or enrolled in college
• Strong organizational skills
• Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of our temple, NFTY and the Reform Movement
• Sensitivity to individuals with special needs, and experience creating inclusive environments
• Ability to communicate appropriately with youth, parents, professional staff, and lay leaders
• Skilled at event planning and logistics
• Computer and social media savvy
• Confidence, patience, and compassion
The successful candidate will be a charismatic, energetic individual with strong organizational skills who can envision creative approaches to engage our youth of all ages and their parents. They will be flexible and able to work collaboratively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Religious School Office Assistant Duties
Registration (work with Lynn to set u registration in Shulcloud)
School Database Management
Create emails in mailchimp, manage emails tags by grade in mailchimp
Post to School Facebook page
Create flyers
Work on event planning as needed
Document processes
15-20 hours a week
Weekly standard hours – Sundays 8:30am-2:00pm & Tuesdays 6:00pm-8:45pm. Other hours are flexible.
