At ASU—home to over 3,500 Jewish students—we're reimagining what it means to build community, approaching engagement with a startup mindset.

You’ll be responsible for leading a portfolio of micro-communities—including but not limited to Greek life, academic majors, and interest-based groups—empowering student leaders to create meaningful, self-sustaining communities that reflect their passions and identities.
With 85% of ASU’s Jewish students arriving with little prior connection to Jewish life, the opportunity for impact is immense. You’ll play a key role in Hillel’s success by leading our immersive Birthright Israel program and kickstarting creative, student-driven initiatives that bring Jewish life to unexpected places. This is a student-facing role, with 80% of your time spent actively engaging students on campus. What You’ll Do
Birthright Israel Management
- Staff and oversee the recruitment and marketing for two trips annually, summer and winter.
- Serve as the main point of contact for our trip organizer.
- Organize and coordinate participant interviews and manage the Birthright Israel pipeline participant list.
- Mentor and supervise Birthright Israel recruitment interns and trip follow-up interns.
- Curate pre-trip orientations and post-trip reunions to build a cohesive and tight-knit cohort experience.
- Provide personalized follow-up and educational opportunities to help Birthright Israel alumni stay engaged in Jewish life and strengthen their connection to Judaism, Israel, and Hillel
Community Engagement
- Execute a strategic approach to community engagement by piloting, kickstarting, and supporting micro-communities such as Greek life, Business, Health, Engineering, and other identity- or interest-based groups.
- Empower students to lead and build community, mentoring student leaders as they create their own programs, events, and initiatives rooted in Jewish life.
- Develop and lead two cohort-based experiences per year, aligned with your interests and student needs—these may include Jewish learning classes, Israel learning classes, or interest-based educational programs.
- Facilitate regular programming in key residential and community spaces (such as the Greek Leadership Village, Business School, Honors College) to foster meaningful relationships and create vibrant Jewish experiences where students already are.
- Create inclusive and relevant Jewish content for holidays, Shabbat, and cultural moments, adapting celebrations to resonate with the diverse micro-communities you build.
Team & Overall Engagement Responsibilities
- Hold at least 5 student conversations/week to develop 1/1 relationships.
- Achieve student engagement goals as set by the Associate Director.
- Staff community-wide socials, Shabbat and holiday programming, ensuring each and every student feels warmly welcomed into Hillel’s “doors.”
- Support immersive experiences by recruiting for Birthright Israel, Jewish Learning Fellowships, and social cohort experiences.
What You’re Great At

- Prioritizing a diverse workload, setting attainable expectations, and following through.
- Seeing the big picture goals amidst the day-to-day work.

- Addressing large crowds with enthusiasm and confidence.
- Fluency with social media and design tools (Canva, LinkTree, Instagram, Facebook etc).
- Working a flexible schedule that may vary day to day based on students’ needs and Hillel programs.
What You’ll Bring to the Job
- A Bachelor’s degree and 0-3 years of professional work experience.. Prior Hillel experience is a plus, but not required.
- Prior participation in Birthright Israel/Israel immersive experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong entrepreneurial spirit and excitement about the limitless possibilities of engaging every Jewish student.
- A positive attitude and approach your work with curiosity, humor, and a growth mindset.
- You are flexible, understanding that things may not always go according to plan, and you are willing to problem-solve and adapt.
- Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel.
What You’ll Receive
- A competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for the entry-level role is $47,000-$50,000 or $55,000-$60,000 for the manager-level role.
