Job Title:                     Membership Manager

Employee Status:        Full-time, Exempt

Reports to:                  Director of Philanthropy

Overview – About Us

Temple Rodef Shalom is a Reform Jewish congregation located in the Northern Virginia suburbs just outside Washington, DC. Since our founding in 1962, we have grown into the largest Jewish congregation in Virginia, serving over 1,700 households. In non-COVID times, we are bustling with activity: we serve over 200 families in our Early Childhood Center, nearly 900 students in our Religious School program, and hundreds of people each week who walk through our doors to pray, sing, learn, connect and mark life cycle moments.

Annual Membership contributions are the Temple’s primary source of revenue and are the most significant way members support our community philanthropically. Ensuring that members feel warmly welcomed and supported from the moment they first contact us is a critical part in ensuring the financial success of our community. The Membership Manager helps engage TRS members and stewards their membership throughout their time with us to facilitate, track and increase their financial support.

Essential Responsibilities

Membership

  • Meet with prospective members: conduct tours, explain our membership model, assist with setting their initial annual commitment for membership
  • Create a communications workflow to build relationships with prospective and new members
  • Staff the Membership Committee: collaborate to implement 3-5 member touchpoints annually (Rosh Hashanah baskets to new members, pie delivery to congregants who are veterans, new member Shabbat brunch, parent coffees for new Religious School families, etc.)
  • Develop a process to encourage eligible Early Childhood Center families to join the temple
  • Manage our monthly Bubbles and Babies outreach program for families with children up to age 3

Account Management

  • Enter new members into ShulCloud, our CRM/database, recording their membership commitment and billing preferences
  • Respond to members regarding account inquiries, coordinating with other staff members as needed
  • Collaborate with other departments (Early Childhood, Religious School, Camp Rodef Shalom, Clergy/Caring) to ensure member families remain in good standing and eligible for member benefits
  • Work closely with the Finance and Fundraising Operations Manager to coordinate billing, abatement, and collections, maintaining a holistic approach to members’ total financial contributions to the Temple.
  • Communicate regularly with families expressing financial hardship to provide congregational support and maintain their connection to the Temple
  • Conduct exit interviews with resigning members, record feedback, and update their ShulCloud account.
  • Develop and prepare monthly reports to track new/resigned members, arrears, annual contributions, and other key philanthropic metrics

Philanthropy

  • Identify and implement opportunities to increase the average Annual Membership Contribution
  • Assist with planning member recognition events: pull data to create guest lists, design invitations, track RSVPs, coordinate with vendors, send follow-up notes
  • Set meetings with congregants in target demographics, to invite them to their next giving level
  • Work with the Director of Philanthropy on the continued development of benchmarks and goals.

Other Duties

  • Provide onsite support to two congregational engagement events (outside normal office hours) monthly
  • Help prepare and be present for the Jewish High Holy Days: Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required
