Description

The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School seeks qualified candidates to serve as Director of Security. This position is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and execution of all safety and security operations across both campuses, including policy development, emergency preparedness, personnel supervision, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.  Please provide a cover letter and resume. 

Security and Safety Oversight:

  • Oversee all aspects of security and safety at both campuses.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure a secure environment.
  • Schedule, conduct, and evaluate emergency drills in cooperation with Principals.
  • Maintain all security systems and assets, including emergency kits, CCTV cameras, access control, and two-way radios, ensuring full functionality and readiness.
  • Conduct regular security audits of buildings, grounds, and events to ensure compliance and identify potential risks.
  • Oversee campus security operations, including arrival and dismissal traffic flow, and security for athletic and other large-scale events.

Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management:

  • Develop and implement emergency preparedness and crisis management plans.
  • Ensure training and ongoing compliance with preparedness requirements.
  • Establish and lead emergency response teams on both campuses.
  • Assist in the development and submission of security grant applications to secure funding for safety initiatives, equipment, and emergency preparedness programs.

Security Technology Management:

  • Collaborate with the IT department to support and maintain visitor management systems and other security technologies, ensuring their effective operation.
  • Evaluate and recommend enhancements to security systems and infrastructure
  • Maintain relationships with the CESJDS Security Task Force and outside security companies.

Law Enforcement Liaison:

  • Establish and maintain liaison with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement and Homeland Security officials.
  • Conduct advance information investigations for field trip locations.
  • Supervise onsite personnel, including Montgomery County Police officers.

Community Engagement:

  • Maintain liaison with entities in the "Jewish Campus," including JCC, Ring House, Jewish Federation, Hebrew Home, B’nai Israel, and local synagogues.
  • Provide safety and security training to staff and faculty.
  • Planning special events on school grounds (logistics) ie: sporting events, back to school nights.

Investigations:

  • Investigate and document suspected criminal violations, suspicious incidents, security procedure violations, and policy violations as needed.
  • Other Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CFOO.

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred, 7+ years of relevant security experience in a school or commercial setting, or equivalent experience in a law enforcement or military environment.
  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills with a proactive approach to problem solving required.
  • Experience in crisis management.
  • Experience in managing teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to effectively respond to complex inquiries and/or complaints.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others and have a problem-solving mindset.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Highly motivated and organized.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
